Jamie Has Finally Explained Why He Got So Upset When Timm Was Leaving ‘Bachelor In Paradise’

There are a handful of reality TV moments from this year that will go down in history, and Jamie Doran packing his bags and almost leaving Bachelor In Paradise after mistakenly thinking Timm Hanly had left, is right up there.

The confusing moment left viewers wondering what was going through Jamie’s head at the time, but wonder no more, because Jamie has finally explained what went down on the latest episode of So Dramatic! podcast. In the third part (yes…third!) of his interview with host Megan Pustetto, Jamie revealed that it all began over the Bula Banquet and the arrival of Renee Barrett. Jamie said that he was put offside over what he saw as “bullying” levelled at Renee, by some of his fellow contestants.

He said his blowup after the banquet was caused by “70% Timm, 30% Renee”, and relayed some scenes we didn’t see on the show. “Renee is getting attacked at the table and I stood up and said ‘this is BS.’ I pointed at all the producers and I said, ‘she’s being bullied. I won’t stand for this. This either stops or I leave the show.’ I march off and I leave the table,” Jamie began.

“I’m sitting there just stewing and I’m already in this heightened state, and then someone, I can’t remember who it was [came] to convey this message that Timm Hanly was leaving the show. Timm and I shared a bungalow together. I’m already in this heightened state, I had already been on the red wines, and I get there [back to the bungalow] and Timm’s packing his bags. This is what we see on camera.”

Jamie went on to say that he thinks producers chose not to tell him that Timm hadn’t actually left the show to create more drama. “I packed my bag and left. This all ran out for about three hours and this is why I’m a little annoyed with the producers, because they knew that Timm hadn’t left but they let that run out. I felt like, at the expense of my mental health in that situation, they chose ratings over my mental health.”

Given his extreme reaction to Timm’s rumoured departure, Jamie explained why he was so panicked, telling Megan, “After we filmed The Bachelorette, I got a job in Melbourne and I spent nearly every day with Timm and he became my support network,” he said. “And as The Bachelorette was shown, and I was depicted the way I was, Timm was there for me through all [of] this. Before I went to Paradise, Timm and I told each other that we were going and just him being there — after everything I had been through — it gave me some sort of grounding.”

Another controversial TV moment that Jamie had an issue with was his goodbye speech at his final BIP rose ceremony. Viewers will remember that Jamie, rather randomly, professed his love for Helena. This was despite the fact that Helena was no longer even on the show. However, Jamie reckons we didn’t hear the whole story. “That dramatic speech actually got cut as well. That got edited. I actually said I was going to go out to find my own version of Helena.”

To be fair, that sounds a lot less intense.

Jamie shared a lot about how his life has changed since appearing on The Bachelorette (and it’s worth hearing). You can listen to the full So Dramatic! episode here.
