Bachy’s Nikki Gogan Has Finally Addressed What Went Wrong For ‘The Bachelorette’
While we were thrilled to find out that Bardot’s Sophie Monk would be this year’s chosen The Bachelorette – our first thought was, what about Nikki?
Judging by the formula that’s seen Matty J and Sam Frost go off into their own spin-off seasons of the dating show, Nikki Gogan was the obvious pick to become Australia’s next bachelorette.
After she was left heartbroken when Richie Strahan (incorrectly) chose Alex Nation in the finger-biting finale of The Bachelor last year, we were all rooting for Nikki to find her ‘happily ever after’. Fans on Instagram were very quick to outpour their support for her, and even attacked Richie’s Instagram account with some savage comments.
Now it turns out that Nikki WAS given the opportunity to be the new bachy, but instead decided she wanted to step out of the spotlight and return to her career in real estate.
“You sort of have forks in the road. You’ve got different choices to make and you’re weighing them all up,” she said in an interview with news.com.au.
“For lifelong fulfilment, for me, this was the better option. I thought long and hard about my aims and I know how much I love my real estate career. It’s the path I’ll be most proud of.”
As Nikki gets set to start a new job at Caporn Young in Fremantle this week, when asked directly what happened with the plans for The Bachelorette, the reality star kept her response vague.
“I think that with all my dealings with Warner Bros. or Channel Ten, they were always very respectful,” she said. “They were always aware of my feelings and how I felt. At no point do I think anyone jumped the gun. They were always very respectful.”
Errr, who knows what that means?? But Nikki seemed keen to downplay any bad blood between herself and the network. She also confirmed that Monk wasn’t chosen over her, and that the decision to go with Sophie had nothing to do with any arrangement she had previously with the reality show.
“There was no crossover, there were no hard feelings or missing out,” she said, adding, “And Sophie is a wonderful choice. And funny.”
Nikki said since her stint on The Bachelor, she has no interest reentering the spotlight, and unlike many of her bachy mates, she hasn’t seized on her chance at fame, instead she wants to be recognized for her career saying, “15 minutes is good for me”.
“I look forward to the day that I’m recognised for my career rather than a TV show. That was a small period of time,” she said.
As for whether there are any potential partners in Nikki’s sights, the real estate agent said she is still single and taking it slow.
“I’m gonna ease myself into it one day. One day. Not one day soon,” she says.
We wish you all the best Nikki! The Bachy ’16 winner in all our hearts.
