WTAF: Band Featured In ’13 Reasons Why’ Has Thrown Serious Shade At The Series
The media storm brewing around Netflix’s ’13 Reasons Why’ is showing little sign of slowing down. Over the weekend, indie band Car Seat Headrest, whose song ‘Oh! Starving’ is featured on the series, have come out with some fighting words against the teen show.
The band’s song plays during a scene in which Hannah Baker says she is having the “worst day ever”. Despite teaming up with the series, Car Seat Headrest weren’t holding back their feelings for the show, tweeting to their 24 thousand followers: “it’s kind of fucked.”
Geez, tell us what you really think. Here’s their full Twitter rant below:
as someone who contributed to the soundtrack for "13 Reasons Why", I am obliged to tell you all that it's kind of fucked

writers: please don't tell kids how to turn their miserable and hopeless lives into a thrilling and cathartic suicide mission

kids: this is not a narrative you need to subscribe to. go watch 'spring breakers' instead

While their criticism may seem harsh, the band aren’t alone in their stance on the series’ dangerous undertones romanticising suicide – all without the adequate content warnings.
Due to the continued controversy, Netflix has finally confirmed that a viewer warning will be added to the first episode. It’s a (very) small step, but I guess it’s something.
While Car Seat Headrest have offered no further comment on their music being featured in the series, they did end the Twitter rant with this jewel.
reporters: please don't report my tweets

SORRY NOT SORRY.
