12 Hair & Skincare Staples To Lux Up Your Shower Routine

Tell us you love Punkee without telling us you love Punkee. Sign up to our newsletter, and follow us on Instagram and Twitter. It'll mean the world.

Considering most of us spend a good five to 15 minutes a day in the shower, we don’t often take the time to relax and enjoy ourselves. So we’ve selected some of the best shower products that could transform your entire routine.

Here at Punkee, we’ve sampled our fair share of beauty goodies and thought we’d share what shower products we use regularly and rate the highest.

From exfoliating and cleansing to which shampoo and conditioner matches your hair type, we’ve got you covered.

Here are 12 hair and skincare staples to lux up your shower routine:

#1. Skinstitut, Enzymatic Micro Peel

$34

I apply this to my face about 10 minutes before getting in the shower and then after adding a little water from the shower, I buff it all over my face. The exfoliant is super fine so it can get right into the corners of your facial features and buff off all the dead skin.

#2. L’Oreal Paris, Elvive Extraordinary Clay Pre-Shampoo Mask

$9.95

This is another product that’s part of my pre-shower ritual. If you’re finding your roots are becoming greasy or notice product buildup, apply to the problem areas about five minute before you jump in the shower then wash out. I definitely noticed that my roots became less oily after use.

#3. Simple, Kind To Skin Foaming Cleanser

$12.50

This has been a fave shower staple for years and for good reason. It’s a no-frills cleanser, doesn’t contain any hidden nasties, it lathers up into a foamy dream and leaves skin feeling fresh and clean.

#4. Lush, Shower Scrub in Easy Peeler

$9.95

Now that your face is sorted, it’s time for the rest of your body to get some love and this shower scrub has transformed my whole shower experience. All I have to do is scrub it all over my skin and my shower is filled with a zesty and delicious aroma. The exfoliant is gentle and leaves my skin feeling buffed and soft. Extra environment points as the scrub comes with no packaging.

#5. Lush, Naked Shower Oil in Coco Loco

$7.95

Next I use Lush’s shower oil, which will make your skin feel moisturised all over. Simply add some water and rub over the areas of your skin where you feel dry. Unlike a lot of other products, I was impressed that once I was out of the shower, my skin still felt hydrated.

#6. Biotin Boost, Thickening Shampoo & Conditioner

$14.99 each

Punkee editor Tahlia was impressed with this thickening shampoo and conditioner:

“For someone with thin, long hair that’s easily tangled, I’m all about trying out thickening products that will boost the volume on  my hair as well as help it last an extra day or two without washing.

“These shampoo and conditioners felt great to use, and I noticed my hair was far less knotty when brushing out afterwards. I even made it to day four before I needed to wash again. A shoutout to the dry shampoo in the collection too for really being that bitch to get me over the line.”

#7. Cucumber Aloe Water, Weightless Shine Shampoo & Conditioner

$14.99 each

For my thick-haired friends (like me) looking for a shampoo/conditioner to make your hair feel lighter, Cucumber Aloe Water Weightless Shine is a godsend. It left my hair feeling soft, moisturised and light as a feather. I honestly couldn’t stop running my fingers through my hair after use and the cucumber scent is lovely and fresh.

#8. Lush, Shampoo Bar in Soak & Float

$15.95

If you don’t always condition your hair but prefer shampoo, then shampoo bars are a bloody revelation. Not only do they make hair-washing super simple but their package-less form is a blessing to the environment. I’ve been using the same Lush shampoo bar for about six months. Granted I only wash my hair once a week but still, it has lasted so damn long.

#9. TIGI, Custom Care Shine Booster

$27

If you’re looking an extra boost of shine, mix 6-12 pumps of the product into your conditioner. I noticed a big difference after use and was stoked with how glossy my hair looked.

#10. Glow Lab, Purple Shampoo & Conditioner

$18 each

For my blonde babies out there, a purple shampoo and conditioner is a must-have and Glow Lab’s products are some of the best if you’re looking to reduce brassiness and ice out any yellow and orange tones. This conditioner in particular is super creamy and hydrating.

#12. Garnier Fructis, Sleek & Shine Anti-Frizz Serum

$7.95

Once you’re out of the shower, the final step is to leave your hair feeling silky and looking sleek. I work this serum into the ends of my hair while it’s drying. My hair is pretty damaged from peroxide and the argan oil in the serum gives it a boost of moisture. But avoid putting this product near your roots as it can get oily.
