Last night saw the grand return of Big Brother and thankfully, it appears the show has made a few improvements following 2020’s rather lacklustre season.

For one thing, the premiere saw Big Brother have a lot more fun, from throwing the housemates’ luxury item requests into a wood chipper, to unleashing snappy remarks at housemates getting sassy with him. This is closer to the Big Brother from the ’00s season that we know and love — instead of that dull robot with no soul from last year.

Another important change is that the first challenge took up very little space within the episode, which was another gripe I had with the 2020 episodes which were all driven by boring challenges. This left more room for the housemates’ personalities to shine, along with showing a romance developing between Christina and Max, which came to shock of Katie, Max’s ex, who also happens to be a housemate. Juicy! This is the petty drama we came for!

There was also an interesting twist introduced, as housemates Daniel and Nick disappeared on night one inside a hidden compartment in the couch, then returned just in time to be given the power to vote out one of the nominated housemates — Max, Christina or Mel — or save them all. Daniel woke up and chose chaos, booting out Max to the shock of Nick who had voted for all three to stay.

I can’t wait to see the fallout on tonight’s episode, but until then…
