Sophie & Britt Spill The Tea On That ‘Bachelor’ Finale

If you’re like us over here at Team Punkee, you’re probably still reeling from last night’s episode of The Bachelor.

In an Australian first, Nick ‘Honey Badger’ Cummins did not pick a lady to end up with, and instead trudged slowly down the beach, stared at some water, and contemplated his life.

A real mood.

What made the episode absolutely worth it though, was Britt going to find Sophie after realising neither of them had won and have a good old debrief.

It was an iconic moment of television tbh:

We chatted to Britt and Sophie about WTF went down. But tbh, even they’re still confused.

On Australia deeming Nick a huge fuckboi:

Britt: “It’s a great feeling to have all the support we’ve had. We were worried, we didn’t know how Australia was going to receive this, we didn’t know what would go down. But having said that, I hope everyone eases up on Nick and is more gentle, regardless of the situation I don’t think anyone needs to be bullied to the point they need to disappear.”

On whether they’ve heard from Nick since:

Sophie: “We’ve both received messages from Nick via social media, earlier on though, after filming. He was touching base, making sure we’re OK. But since then it’s been radio silent.”

Britt: “I think everyone’s trying to move on.”

On Britt’s visit to Sophie after they both got dumped:

Sophie: “The first thing I thought when Britt came in was ‘Oh, where’s Nick?!’ He must be waiting outside for her as she comes in to say goodbye to me!”

Britt: “Yeah, as if!”

Sophie: “Then when she fully stepped in, that all went out the window, I didn’t care if she was with him or not I was just so happy to see her. I still had absolutely no idea what had gone on, I think my face said it all! I was absolutely shocked.”

On how their families reacted:

Sophie: “My family were as shocked as me. It was intense breaking the news to them. But my dad did question whether Nick was going to find love on his journey after meeting him at hometowns. He only told me later down the track, but it was nothing that was shown on television.”

Britt: “My family really, really thought I had won. When I walked in and told my sister, she burst into hysterics so, of course, I started laughing too. That’s how we deal with things. She said, ‘If you know what if anyone was going to get the very end and not going to win, it was going to be you because that’s what your love life is like’ and we just laughed. You have to find the humour in it all.”

On the rumours of Brooke being the one with Nick’s heart:

Sophie: “It’s unfortunate you guys didn’t see Nick telling us about Brooke, because it was hard to deal with that people thought we were there just by default. There were moments on more than one occasion where Nick came to Britt and I and said we were meant to be there and said, ‘you guys weren’t my default, this is the way it’s meant to be’.”

On the rumours of Sophie staying at Nick’s parents’ house:

Sophie: “First of all, I freaked out when I heard out I could potentially be living in the family house! I was just renting off someone and I was like, ‘Oh God, do they own this damn thing?’ I did an online search, they weren’ the owners! But there are rumours I’m also dating a work colleague at the moment, I’m here to tell you now it’s all speculation. I’m not living in a house owned by Nick’s family and I’m so single it hurts!”

On Britt being the rumoured winner:

Britt: “I wanted to scream it wasn’t true from the rooftops. Everyone thought I had it in the bag. But there’s a responsibility to keep the secret and let Australia enjoy it, because everyone’s so invested in the show. It was such a unique ending there was a lot of pressure on us to put on a happy face. We had to post those lovey-dovey photos on Instagram, and God I can’t tell you the relief I feel today!”

On how they feel about Nick now:

Britt: “We never had hatred to Nick at all, just confusion. I still don’t have a bad word to say about him, the guy was just lost. He was out of his league, way in over his head. Sophie and I have just tried to make the best out of this situation.”

On whether they felt Nick was genuine:

Britt: “I think other people got the impression he may not be ready to love, but to us he was there, he was fully present.  We really believed one of us was going to walk away with it. We didn’t really get out an answer, we don’t know when or why he came to this decision. It was hard to get any closure we just had to walk out with our heads held up high and move on to the next chapter.”

On the idea of a joint Bachelorette:

Britt: “I think it would be hilarious but I don’t know how it’d work! If they put some thought process in it, there’d be something in that!”

Sophie: “I don’t really get the logistics, but we can probably make it work. It’s a bit fresh right now though!”

Britt: “It’ll just turn into a comedy version of the show!”
