‘Broad City’ Stars Announce The Show Is Officially Wrapping Up For Good
Broad City fans: I’m sorry to say that the upcoming fifth season will be the last.
It’s been a glorious run but now our Broad City creators/superstars Ilana Glazer and Abbi Jacobson have got new projects to devote their attention to and the show will be wrapped up in the fifth and final season.
The powerhouse comedy duo broke the news today, saying:
“Broad City has been our baby and first love for almost 10 years, since we started as a web series,” they wrote in their joint statement. “It’s been a phenomenal experience, and we’ve put ourselves into it completely.
“Broad City‘s always had a spontaneous pace and feeling, and ending after season five honours that spirit. We are very excited to bring new voices and points of view to Comedy Central and continue our collaboration together in new ways.”
If we weren’t already thirsty for season five, well this just raised the stakes. Waiting until it airs sometime in early 2019 is going to feel like an eternity.
The good news though is that it’s absolutely not the end of Glazer and Jacobson’s fire comedy productions. The duo has three projects on the way with Comedy Central and promises more to come as part of that collab.
Abbi and Ilana won’t be starring or directing those three projects as they’ll be on board mostly as executive producers, which is ace. Get it gurls. Keen to see what they deliver.
While we mourn the ending of the Broad City era, we at least have these Glazer and Jacobson stamped projects to look forward to.
Mall Town USA is an animated comedy series about a tweenie-bopper hitting puberty, Platinum Status stars Ilana’s brother, Eliot Glazer, as a gay man exploring his sexuality, and Young Professionals is a comedy about the young years of David Litt, the youngest ever speechwriter to write for Obama.
Feeling a fun mixture of sad and hype about this whole situation but mostly just grateful for the good times Broad City has brought us and that fifth and final season to come.
