On tonight’s premiere of Bachelor In Paradise, Brooke Blurton dropped the bombshell that Nick ‘Honey Badger’ Cummins had taken his microphone off during their last solo date, stopped the cameras and told her he planned to pick no one at the end of his season of The Bachelor.

Brooke told the other girls from her series what exactly happened that had led to her decision to walk away from Nick, a moment which was a shock to everyone involved because of the strong connection Brooke and Nick appeared to have.

“He’s going to hate me for this,” Brooke said in her on-camera piece, before spilling the details of something she had been hiding in order to “protect” Nick.

“I thought there was definitely chemistry there and we had developed something pretty good. I thought maybe like I’d be the girl at the end but then he stopped the cameras and smothered his mic to tell me that he wasn’t going to pick anyone in the end.”

After Brooke spilt the truth tea, we decided to go back and rewatch that final date to see if we could pick the moment everything changed.

Spoilers… you definitely can.

The date started with Nick picking Brooke up on a motorbike and they were both pretty stoked to be together.

They then did some casual body-painting, creating a mural on each other. The vibe was still flirty, fun, and there were quite a few sneaky kisses thrown in.

They then had a steamy makeout session while washing paint off of each other, which was a lot more full on than I remembered it being tbh?

But I guess I’ve tried to erase a lot of that season from my memory.

It’s when they sit down to talk feelings that the mood becomes tense. Whether Nick told Brooke he planned to pick no one and they had to continue filming or not is unclear, but the lovey-dovey vibe 100% disappeared.

The vibe changes fairly fast. One minute Brooke is telling Nick he’s one of the most decent guys she’s ever met and soon after she looks stressed but it’s played off on the show as her insecurities about not knowing where she stands with Nick.

And with the new context Brooke has provided on Bachelor In Paradise, there are also some pretty telling quotes from both of them.

Brooke starts to get teary and says things like, “You can only read someone so much.”

Nick stays fairly silent but drops this quote: “Out of all the girls I have that much respect for you.” Which is PRETTY interesting considering Brooke’s admission that he told her off-camera and kept it quiet from Sophie and Brittany.

The next part we all know well. Brooke took Nick aside at the cocktail party and told him she was going to leave the mansion.

“This is a tough place,” Nick said and Brooke stated that she “needs a guy that knows what he wants”, which is very telling because let’s be real: poor old bloody Nick had not fkin clue what he wanted.

Nick dropped some confusing lines considering the context we now know regarding the situation. Perhaps it was to force the storyline, or perhaps because he was saving face.

“Look I’m not going to stand in your way as much as I want to,” he says. “My respect for you outweighs my selfishness and I want you to be happy.”

He also states “this wasn’t part of my plan.”

Except… well… his plan was pretty shit. But we can’t dwell on the past too much really, can we?

So there we have it. The very weird ending to Nick and Brooke finally explained!
