If You’ve Ever Been Brutally Dumped, ‘The Bachelor’ Probably Just Broke Your Heart All Over Again
Ladies and gentlemen, we just witnessed an IRL heartbreak unfold on screen and to put it bluntly, I’m not okay.
Theatrics aside, in this heavily produced microcosm of the real world, a 23-year-old girl named Cass fell totally in love with a boy, who then reached into her chest, pulled out her heart and stepped on it, on national fucking television.
To add insult to injury, it all went down after home visits, where Cass’ family seemed just as infatuated with Nick “Honey Badgelor” Cummins as she was. Or they were just happy to see their daughter, sister, and friend genuinely and sincerely happy — I’m not sure which is more upsetting.
The On-Screen Heartbreak
But it wasn’t watching Nick meet the family, or watching Cass swallow the words, “I’m falling in love with you” in her backyard, or watching Brittany confront her about her and Nick’s relationship prior to the show that broke our hearts the most. Nope, it was how the whole breakup went down.
“Can I walk you out?” asks Nick, after leaving her roseless.
“We have the best time and it’s not because we don’t get along like a house on fire, because we do. And I have loved every minute of it, I have.”
“You’re an amazing woman, your smile lights up a room but I feel at this moment now, we’ve hit a ceiling.”
I’m sorry folks, but that’s an absolute fucking cop-out. Seriously. If you’ve ever been dumped, you’ll know what I’m talking about. Nothing crushes a person more than hearing, “you’re amazing, just not enough.” Because how do you fix that? You just can’t.
Then he says those dreaded seven words that to this day, still give me PTSD: “I hope we can still be friends.”
And if that weren’t enough, we have the fucking in-car exit interview, where we have to watch our girl, Cass, quietly sob while letting us know she’s in pain.
“I just can’t believe it. I’ve had my heart broken and it sucks,” says Cass. “There’s nothing I can do about it. I didn’t see it coming, but it is what it is.”
“Nick is someone who I have never had these feelings for before. He’s someone I thought was really special and until I find something like that again, that’s what I’ll be looking for.”
