This CCTV Footage Of A Bloke Stealing Grass While Dressed As A Minion Is Peak 2017
A mysterious individual wearing a minion costume has been caught on CCTV stealing a chunk of a Kalgoorlie bloke’s immaculate front lawn, in what is surely the greatest true crime mystery of the year, possibly even the decade.
Kalgoorlie resident Bradley Nicklin was hungover on his front verandah on Sunday morning a few weeks ago when he noticed that a small square of his extremely well-tended front lawn had been removed, apparently with a shovel. He quickly checked his CCTV footage, which revealed a stranger dressed as a minion from Despicable Me happily bouncing down the street and into his yard, shovel in tow, in broad daylight, to dig a hole in his lawn.
The operation was neither swift nor stealthy — the earth of Nicklin’s front yard was evidently quite hard, and the minion struggled at first to get the shovel into the ground. The CCTV footage shows it standing on top of the shovel and bouncing several times to get purchase, which is clearly not an easy move when one’s entire torso is ensconced in a cylinder of yellow foam designed to mimic the charming rotundness of a beloved children’s character and/or despised meme.
Nicklin told WA Today that he found the CCTV hilarious — but that was the least of his worries. Apparently not content with simply pulling off the most baffling crime of this century, “Carl Minion” — as the lawn thief prefers to be known — has since started a Facebook page documenting the aftermath of the heist.
It features pictures of the minion-besuited rascal fleeing down a residential street holding the square of lawn and a shovel, as well as footage of Carl watering said square of lawn in his own backyard several days later.
While Carl Minion’s true identity is still unknown, Nicklin told WA Today he reckons it’s probably one of his mates, because he’d previously been bragging about the quality of his lawn on Snapchat. Serves him right.
