Good News: Celeb Spellcheck Is Back! Bad News: It’s Completely Different!

In its height of popularity, Celeb Spellcheck was a force to be reckoned with. The anonymous page dedicated to taking the piss out of Instagram influencers had nothing short of a meteoric rise, with over 150k followers, before the person behind Celeb Spellcheck decided to shut it down.

The page initially gained fans for posts like this, where they simply posted hilarious spelling errors made by celebs and influencers.

Elyse Knowles writing “Wallah” instead of “Voila” will forever live in my brain rent-free.

But Celeb Spellcheck’s following grew even larger for spicier posts like below, where the page exposed Bella Varelis for weirdly trying to pass off some random Russian post as her own content.

Choices!

With the page’s following expanding, so did the criticism of its content by influencers who called the creator out for “bullying”, while also trying to unmask the mystery person running the account. It clearly all got too much for the page’s admin and in April they decided to shut down Celeb Spellcheck entirely.

Read the announcement below:

Almost as soon as the page announced that it was shutting down, dozens of imitation accounts popped up on Instagram under variations of the @celeb_spellcheck name. These pages were straight-up shameless, using the same profile picture (a Judge Judy meme) to maintain that they are the original page. And tbh, it worked! Some of these pages have already racked up thousands of followers from people mistaking them for the original, or thinking it was a new version of the same account.

With the gap for the page filled instantaneously, along with other similar celebrity/influencer gossip pages on Instagram finding fans, this could have been the end of the OG Celeb Spellcheck. However, two weeks after shutting down the page and wiping its contents — a new post appeared. And since this post, Celeb Spellcheck has consistently posted images of err…papped pics of celebrities from the early ’00s.

The rebrand began with this post, which was simply an old image of Mary-Kate Olsen walking alongside the NYPD.

They then posted an image of iconic ’00s besties: Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie.

Paris is popular on the revamped page, with another gallery dedicated to her friendship with Kim Kardashian.

It’s not just US celebs who the page posts, with our own Sophie Monk getting a gallery dedicated to some of her looks from the early ’00s.

Or the often forgotten short-lived romance between Delta Goodrem and Nick Jonas.

So, ummm…what in fresh hell is happening? When the page was questioned over why they started posting content that has nothing to do with spellchecking celebrities, Celeb Spellcheck had this to say:

So there’s that! Celeb Spellcheck could have sold the page for “a lot of money” but instead decided to keep it for themselves, to simply post the images they like. It’s kind of amazing.

The original snark of the page will be sorely missed, but there’s no doubt that other pages are ready and willing to step into Celeb Spellcheck’s rather large shoes.

Bring on the ’00s nostalgia!
