Australian magazine giant, CLEO Magazine has officially announced it’s closure following their March 2016 publication, on sale this Friday. Bauer Media Group, Cleo’s publisher has confirmed the closure following declining sales and profits.

The publication was launched in 1972 by Ita Buttrose with the assistance of media mogul, Kerry Packer. This story was famously recounted the ABC miniseries, Paper Giants: The Birth of Cleo.

It soon became synonymous with sex advice, fashion information and celebrity gossip for Australian women.

Cleo Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia will not be effected by the closure as they are no longer owned by Bauer. Cleo Thailand will remain in circulation through a joint venture between Bauer and Post International Media.

The final edition will feature Aussie actress, Rebel Wilson on the cover.

It is not yet confirmed whether the magazine’s sister publication, Dolly is also on the chopping block, however it was reported yesterday that Cleo staff were told to reapply for jobs at Dolly. Though, it could be a short time until the German media group close down Dolly as well, insiders have confirmed.
