Drag Superstar Courtney Act Is Ready To Take On A New Reality TV Challenge On ‘Dancing With The Stars’
Dancing With The Stars is making its triumphant comeback tonight and ahead of the series premiere, we chatted with Courtney Act (Shane Janek) who’s sure to bring a little razzle-dazzle to the show.
No stranger to reality TV, Courtney first won us over back in 2003 on Australian Idol and since then has had quite the career blossom, with shows like RuPaul’s Drag Race, Celebrity Big Brother and The Bi Life on her CV.
Here’s what Courtney Act had to say about life in the dancing lane ahead of tonight’s DWTS premiere.
On the DWTS rehearsals:
“It’s been really fun, we dance for about four hours, my dance partner Josh is really fun, we just have a ball while doing the same number over and over and over again. It’s kinda nice as a job, like going to work and then you just get to dance for four hours.
The first week was kind of hard because you think you’re doing it and you watch it back like, oh that didn’t look nearly as good as how it felt! I’m excited but I feel like every time I go into something like ‘this is fun, this is great!’ I kinda get a rude shock. Sometimes I think it’s better to have a bit more doubt, worry a bit more.”
On her competitors:
“I feel like Michelle Bridges will be very disciplined and I have a suspicion that Olympia Valance has a dancing background. I don’t want to speculate too much because she says she hasn’t but she comes from the Valance family and I feel like she’s got performance in her blood and she was very good at the promo shoot.
And of course every time Jett Kenny is around I lose complete control of my bodily functions.”
On the one song that will always drag her out onto the DF:
“‘Love Shack’ I’ve always loved that song. Actually fun fact, The Veronicas and I, we were once in a band when we were teenagers called the Yabba Dabba Doo’s and we used to perform that song!”
On her one go-to dance move:
“My dance move? I do variations of a lonely little two-step and I just put my body into it. The only reason it’s lonely when I do it is that I just thrash my body around.”
On what reality show could come next:
“I can’t see myself in the jungle, or on Survivor. I know what it’s like to do those challenging things but I don’t want to eat cockroaches. I would like to learn how to cook. Or Toddlers and Tiaras!”
