People Share The Craziest Stuff They’ve Done For Their Crush In The Name Of Love

I hate crushes. Luckily for me, I’ve been in a great relationship for seven years and I do not have to deal with that whole experience, and I’m positive I never will again.

Everything about having a crush makes me nauseous: from getting anxious when you see them IRL, to not knowing  if they like you, and doing things for them just to get their attention. It’s absolutely sickening (sickening like gross ?, not sickening like slay??).

And sometimes, the decisions you make about your crush could be life-changing or expensive! Having a crush is literally like getting possessed, or as the Jonas Brothers call it, catching a ‘Love Bug.’

One time I had a massive crush on this guy in Year 6 and when it was time to choose which high schools we would graduate to, I chose the same one he was going to… because I really thought if we had more time, he would like me. NOPE. Then I was stuck at that school up until Year 10.

But what makes me bring up these cringeworthy moments is that when I listen to my single friends and their quests for love, I realised that we do some of the most batshit crazy things for people, even if we don’t know if they like us back or not.

Then it lead me to realise that even though I’m in a relationship, I still do weird stuff, like fully learning how to rollerskate because my mans is a certified sk8er boi.

Honestly, I wish finding your love was easy. Like how peacocks have a courtship ritual. That’s sooo much stinking easier than an app or having to join a reality show to find the one. But no, us humans have to make it extra difficult.

To explore what love does to the brain, here are some crazy things people have done in the name of love:

“I joined my crush’s friend group to play cards for a month so they’d notice me.” – Danielle

“So when I was like 23, I had the biggest crush on the lead singer of a cover band that I had one date with. I was OBSESSED with him, so I would fully stalk what shows he was playing and show up like it was just a coincidence.” – Tara

“So my story begins and I’m out for a birthday. We have dinner, go to karaoke, and hit the clubs. Eventually, we reach a time of the night when everyone is heading home. I, however, get a text from a guy I have a crush on saying he’s a couple of suburbs away at another party. So I jump in an Uber and go to see what’s up because I’m a massive simp. I rock up, we sit together, chat and he introduces me to a group of his friends. The night is lovely, we dance, and drink and I’m really just crushing so hard over this guy right. The time comes for everyone to head off and I live quite far away so I’m figuring out how much an Uber home would be. One of the girls in the group suggests I catch a ride with them so they can drop me to a train station closer in the direction of my suburb. I agree to this and my friend (a sober driver btw) who I came to see, drives us all home and for a little after party feed.

Now this is where I come to a realisation that makes me one embarrassed, and two, emo. I’m sitting in the back seat, my crush is driving and in the passenger seat is his “friend”. The car ride is cute and really chill so far. After we get some food, we’re driving to the station I’m going to get off at. It’s in these next couple moments I realise that my crush is dating the girl in the passenger seat. They hold hands, share a kiss, and I’m sitting in the back seat witnessing this thinking “girl, oh my God”. A massive wave of embarrassment washes over me because in the drunken state that I had been in the whole night, I was being incredibly flirty with him. Then boom! Emo girl vibes coming in real quick. Now I blame my cancer moon for how incredibly over dramatic and emotional I got after I was dropped off at the station. I sat there waiting for the next train like it was a scene out of a movie. It had started to rain and I sat there a drunk mess with tears streaming down my face. I really thought that was it, that’s the end of my love life.  Moral of the story? I guess don’t go for kick ons with guys you have a crush on?

Also, TL:DR Caught an Uber to see a crush, they offered me a lift home with a “friend”. Said “friend” was their GF.”- Allua

“My music taste is very emo/metal, but at uni I developed a crush on this very hot indie softboi which is why I decided to get into Local Natives obsessively, reblogging their lyrics on Tumblr where he followed me, hoping he’d notice (he must’ve mentioned he liked them at some stage, idk). This led to me buying tickets to their show which he was also going to! By this time we had hooked up a couple of times, so I was like, OK we’re on here — until he took his ex-girlfriend to the show and I had to catch a 1.5 hour train to the gig and back, spending two hours watching this band who were very decent, don’t get me wrong, but who I wasn’t into whatsoever, all in the hopes this guy would just think I was perfect for him.” – Tahlia

“I went to a catholic primary school and when we went to mass I would belt out the songs just so I can get their attention, like how Ariel from The Little Mermaid got her mans.” – Anonymous

“I once flew to Melbourne for a man who told me he was in love with me and invited me to his mum’s wedding, and then he ghosted me and proceeded to get kicked out of said wedding for punching the best man.” – Lavender

“Didn’t leave a date even though he left me waiting for two hours.” – Millie

“Bought tickets to Taylor Swift in London.” – Jules, who also revealed that neither she or her crush made it to the event.

“I stalked him on LinkedIn and I forgot it has a feature where they can see who viewed their profile. He asked me about it the next day and all I could say was ‘research’.” – Jasmine

“Committed to wearing a Sharks jersey during the NRL season.” – Millie

“I had a crush on a boy who really, really liked Yu Gi Oh! So I spent lots of money on cards to make it look like I was into it too.” – Natasha

“I took them out to KBBQ!!! And they said “My girlfriend would love this place.” I felt so awkward after.” – Lauren

“I was crushing on a guy who played soccer and then he invited me to watch his match. So I did, and unfortunately they lost so at the end of it I tried talking to him, just for some support, but he didn’t even say hi or anything.” – Kate

“I learned a whole sport (soccer) for my crush. I literally used to daydream in class about creating my own mixed soccer team for school lunch times just to have the guy on my team and I would be really good at it overnight. And then I did play soccer eventually and realised it is so fun and a girlies sport!!! But a lot harder than first anticipated.” – Claire

And finally, a little spicy one!

“I did a naughty favour for my crush….But he then found out I wasn’t a virgin before I met him and he got ‘big mad’ about it but I was trying to make it work. He then invited me to hang out with his friends but he then left the party to go hook up with another chick, so I hooked up with his friend instead.” – Alyssa
