STAR WARS EPISODE VIII: Daisy Ridley Spills The Beans On Opening Scene And Luke’s Role
Daisy Ridley and Mark Hamill will feature together in the opening scenes of ‘Star Wars: Episode VIII’.
Yes – start the Episode VIII hysteria starts… now… and we’re already getting our hands on some of the details. We now know that Luke Skywalker and Rey will be in the opening scenes of the next Star Wars epic.
Mark Hamill‘s Jedi Master and the young Jakku scavenger – played by Daisy Ridley – are set to kick of the next installment in the sci-fi franchise, after the British actress revealed that she is shooting “amazing” scenes with the veteran star on island Skellig Michael, which is located off the south west coast of Ireland.
The location was the setting for the climatic end scene of ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’, during which the Resistance’s search for Luke finally comes to an end with Rey handing him his trusty lightsaber, and the 22-year-old star has confirmed ‘Episode VIII’ will open with the two characters on the remote island.
Speaking at the Academy Awards in Los Angeles, Daisy revealed:
“Me and Mark [Hamill] have been rehearsing a lot, and it’s really amazing.
When we went back to Skellig to do the opening of ‘Episode VIII’, it was so crazy doing the same scene with a different crew of people.
He’s amazing to rehearse with, and I’m very excited to be doing the rest of the stuff.”
‘Star Wars: Episode VIII’ is set for release for December 15, 2017 and shooting began on the movie in February.
The sequel focuses on the Resistance – led by Leia Organa (Carrie Fisher) – and their ongoing battle with the First Order, led by Supreme Leader Snoke (Andy Serkis) and Kylo Ren (Adam Driver).
BAFTA winner John Boyega is back on set playing rebel Stormtrooper Finn, Oscar Isaac returns as X-wing fighter pilot, Poe Dameron and Gwendoline Christie as Captain Phasma among others.
Daisy also gave one more little teaser about the film revealing that Luke Skywalker – who had a brief and silent appearance in the last film – has a “seriously, cool” part to play in the next chapter in the saga.
Speaking to MTV news, Daisy teased:
“It’s such a good story. Seriously. Luke is so cool in this one. Really.”
OMGOMGOMGOMGOMG – we’ll be over here in the corner biting our nails in the meantime.
