You might have noticed a dancing hot dog lighting up your newsfeed lately. The internet is going batshit bonkers for the animated Snapchat filter who grooves around with dope breakdancing moves. His only job in life is to dance. And boi does he do it well. So much so that he’s now a meme.

It’s hard to know why the headphone wielding sausage has shot into internet stardom. The meme itself makes as much sense as the very reason why Snapchat thought it was a good idea to create such a pointless filter.

No doubt the brainstorm session at ‘Snapchat Filter HQ’ went down something like this: “what do the kids think is cool these days” ~ “dancing – kids are always dancing and using headphones to listen to music” ~ “hmmm great suggestion… what else?” ~ “Hotdogs, my kids love hotdogs” ~ “Perfect! That’s it. I have the perfect idea“.

It’s hard to pick when all this happened. A YouTube search showing up videos where Mr. Hotdog has found a life outside of Snapchat shows the first video uploaded June 23rd. Using Google Trend data it seems that July 6 was D-day for the meme hittin’ the mainstream.
