Disenchanted has just hit Disney+ and there are so many cute, little details that reminded us of our fave Disney stories.

NGL I was so stoked when Disney announced that the 2007 film Enchanted was getting a sequel. The original story follows Giselle, a 2D Disney-like princess who unfortunately gets pushed down a well on the way to her wedding, and ends up in New York City, a place that has no happily ever afters.

As Giselle tries to work out her new environment, she bumps into Robert and Morgan, who slowly show her the ropes of reality, cementing that the real world doesn’t have happy endings.

Giselle’s magic and whimsical nature eventually rubs off on Robert and the pair slowly fall in love. At the end of the film, Giselle and Robert begin a happy life together in the real world, with his daughter Morgan.

I know I kinda went crazy with explaining the plot there, but it is a super great watch and it features a lot of our Hollywood faves like Amy Adams, Patrick Dempsey, James Marsden, and Idina Menzel.

Disenchanted is the long-awaited sequel that answers the question “but do they really live happily ever after?” It follows Giselle, Robert, Morgan and their new baby Sophia, and their adjustment to suburbia, however things take a turn for the worst when Giselle wishes for a fairytale life.

Both Enchanted and Disenchanted take inspiration from past fairytale stories, however, Disenchanted definitely takes a lot more inspo from Disney films, and the easter eggs you can find are quite cute, especially if you’re a Disney fan.

Disclaimer: This article has heaps of spoilers. This is your final warning!

So without further ado, here are all the easter eggs we could find in Disenchanted:

 1. The construction workers are the fairies from Sleeping Beauty

When Giselle and her family finally made the move to Monroeville, we see three gardeners out the front of their new humble abode.

Their costumes look very similar to Flaura, Fauna, and Merryweather from Sleeping Beauty. They wear the same colours as the fairies and they also flock to Sofia, Giselle’s baby, which is quite reminiscent of the Sleeping Beauty fairies and how they flocked to Aurora.

It’s also quite fitting that they turn into fairies after Giselle’s wish.

2. Monroeville’s villain is named “Malvina”

Malvina is introduced to us as the HBIC (Head Bitch in Charge) of Monroeville, but once she said her name, it gave me Maleficent vibes, aka the villain of Sleeping Beauty.

Another observation was Malvina’s costume. Although it’s not a Disney film, her hair and clothes were giving the Grand High Witch in Ronald Dahl’s Witches.

It’s definitely the evil bob.

3. Giselle being cursed with the clock

After Giselle made her wish to have a “fairytale life”, she soon realises that she accidentally cursed herself to become a wicked stepmother.

The curse caused Giselle to grow more evil by the hour. In an attempt to ammend the curse, Giselle turned to an instruction manual that came with the wand she wished with.

The magic scroll tells Giselle she only has until 12PM to stop the curse. This screams Cinderella.

4. The memorable Little Mermaid splash scene

As Morgan lives her best peasant life in Giselle’s altered world, she breaks out in song titled ‘Perfect,’ where she discussed the world around her and how she doesn’t belong.

There’s a moment in the song where she climbs on some crates, and she holds a long note. As she belts out this song other peasants around her splash water at her and it was giving us flashbacks to Ariel’s scene in The Little Mermaid, where she sings ‘Part Of Your World.’

It’s a super cute and creative detail.

5. Morgan going down the tower

In their new home in Monroeville, Morgan’s room is located in the attic. The home also has a random, tall-ass tower.

When Morgan attempts to escape Giselle, she used clothes tied together. When she lets the makeshift rope down, it’s kinda reminiscent of Rapunzel…or Tangled, in Disney terms.

6. Dress transformation scene

After Giselle snaps out of her wicked stepmother persona for a moment, she pushes Morgan down their well, telling her to seek help in the fairytale 2D land of Andalasia.

When Morgan finally wakes up, she is met with Nancy and Prince Edward who are also confused by the massive hole in their sky, which came as a result of Giselle’s big wish.

Morgan and Nancy soon find out how to fix the curse, through the memory tree. As Nancy breaks out in song, Giselle has her torn-up dress turned into a gorgeous gown.

The beautiful transformation is extremely similar to Cinderella’s dress change, and it’s definitely an easter egg for those who are familiar with their Disney princesses!

7. Nancy’s song

As Morgan and Nancy discover the cure to Giselle’s wish, Nancy breaks out in song… after all, this is a musical.

‘Love Power’ the song that Nancy sings for Disenchanted, sounds super similar to the Frozen fave, ‘Let It Go’. It’s super fitting as well to make Nancy sing this song, as she is played by Idina Menzel, who also voices Elsa.

The inspo is made super obvious with the line “Let it grow. Let it glow,” cause DUHHH it sounds like ‘Let It Go’ from Frozen!!!

8. The vines from Andalasia

When the curse/wish of Giselle begins to get stronger, the vines from Andalasia seep into the real world.

The vines then take over the castle where Malvina is holding her festivities for Monroeville. This definitely relates to the thorns Maleficient puts over the castle in the Sleeping Beauty, but instead of Malvina doing it, it’s Giselle.

In all honesty, the movie was super fun, and it kinda was a cute homage to all the fairytales from our childhood.

But nothing will ever top Enchanted, and it’s most catchy song, ‘That’s How You Know.’
