Disney Is Still Struggling To Cast The Live-Action Aladdin But Fans Have Made Their Own Choice
While Disney still can’t find a lead actor for the live action remake of Aladdin, the internet has boiled it down to two solid candidates.
Filming for Aladdin was set to start this month, however The Hollywood Reporter is claiming it’s been pushed back to August because Disney has yet to cast a title character. Even after global casting sessions and about 2,000 actors reading for the roles of Jasmine and Aladdin, no one has quite fit the bill.
In light of Disney’s struggles it may be time to take the fan’s picks a lot more seriously. While Disney maintains that they’re committed to casting unknown actors for the lead roles of Aladdin and Jasmine, but people are getting restless and there are some killer candidates on the table.
The people want this real live-action Aladdin movie and they want it soon, so fans are getting vocal on Twitter about who should play the lead role. According to the crowd, there are two fan favourites for the ‘street rat’ turned Persian prince, and tbh they both seem like pretty damn good ideas.
Option #1 Zayn Malik
The Former 1D star can definitely sing and dance so that’s covered plus he’s got the sultry good looks that make Jasmine wanna hop on that magic carpet ride. While technically Zayn is British Pakistani, he does have the skills and he looks great with a monkey on his shoulder. The question is, can he act? Zayn fans are convinced he would make the perfect Aladdin.

Poor Disney, it must be so hard to think of a twentysomething South Asian singer/performer with star power to play Aladdin. #AladdinZayn pic.twitter.com/WHdwFToqRc

Get around this photoshop and just try to say that Zayn can’t pull off Aladdin:

Then I would cast Zayn as Aladin. He sings & dances. He's British/Pakistani but I think he & YS cld be a huge draw pic.twitter.com/sPEXdLK7G1

Option #2 Avan Jogia
You might know Avan as the dreamy Beck Oliver from Disney’s Victorious. He’s a British Indian expat from Canada (whereas Aladdin is technically from the Middle East) but he’s nailing Aladdin’s signature hairstyle. Plus he’s hella cute. So there’s a lot of Disney fans devoted to getting Avan the Aladdin gig and they make a strong case.
