The 10 Emotional Stages Of Watching ‘Dirty John’ On Netflix
Our latest Netflix obsession is here with the release of Dirty John over the weekend. With only eight episodes, the series is prime for binging in one hit. I did just that and I feel no shame.
The show is an adaption of the popular podcast of the same name, with Connie Britton and Eric Bana stepping into the shoes of Debra and John, who met online and had a short but intense courtship and marriage. The story seems straightforward enough at first until the layers of deceit John has built his life on start to unfold before Debra’s eyes.
Because it’s a true story, it makes it all the more unsettling and Bana in particular perfectly straddles the line between being charming and creepy.
The entire series is a wild ride and here are some of the emotions the series may have put you through.
#1. First of all, this story is nuts.

#2. John is already creeping me out, how can’t Debra see this?!
OMG….watching #DirtyJohn on Netflix. If anyone needs to know what a narcissist/sociopath is and how they gaslight, manipulate and pull people in, watch this. Scarily true and when watching, I knew exactly who it represented!

#6. Her kids are sort of awful to her, so maybe they drove her away?
Her kids are actual spoiled little brats regardless though #dirtyjohn

Debra is one docile woman and don’t get me started on her spoilt kids with the annoying voices, still hooked though what a series ? #DirtyJohn pic.twitter.com/1sY7RFYKhl
— Mulan (@DoubleDeka) February 17, 2019
#7. But still, you should side with your kids, right?!
Firstly, how are you moving in with a man that showed you red flags on the first date. Secondly how are you not taking the side of any of your children? This can't be real ? #DirtyJohn

#8. Despite everything, I’m still feeling for Debra in this awful situation.
Anyone saying Debra is stupid or naive has clearly never been in an abusive or manipulative relationship. Things are not black and white in real life. #DirtyJohn
