5 Times Netflix’s Rom-Com ‘Set It Up’ Made Me Believe Love Wasn’t Dead After All
ICYMI, the movie that has everyone talking right now is Netflix’s Set It Up, frankly because it’s just an unapologetically old fashioned rom-com, the kind we haven’t seen in years.
It’s the sort of rom-com that makes you feel all bubbly inside. With characters that are familiar enough to follow the story with ease, but original enough to keep the viewer on their toes.
The movie begins by invoking a typical rom-com convention, as its protagonists Harper (Zoey Deutch) and Charlie (Glen Powell) start off in a love/hate relationship.
While the pair initially focus on setting up their bosses (Lucy Liu and Taye Diggs) to date, their rocky relationship slowly blossoms into something more.
Can Glen Powell and Zoey Deutch be the new Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan of this century, please!?! #SetItUp pic.twitter.com/yUaiBenKO7

It’s just cute as heck. Similiar to films such as How To Lose A Guy In Ten Days or Crazy, Stupid, Love, watching it is like wrapping yourself in a warm and soft blanket. It’s cosy, comforting, the viewer can relax and just enjoy the ride.
Here’s 5 times Set It Up made me believe love wasn’t dead after all:
1. When they had their first meeting
An adorbs first meeting is the touchstone of any decent rom-com. Harper and Charlie cross paths in the most perfect way, as the personal assistants find themselves in the exact same predicament: buying a last-minute dinner for their bosses.
As they clash and fight over the same meal, in the end they compromise and create two dinners. And when Charlie eats that pickle, you just know it’s true love.

2. The banter at the baseball game is too cute
Harper and Charlie organise for their bosses to attend a baseball game to create a spontaneous meet up. But the cute banter the assistants engage in is much more interesting.
My fave part is the line, “I’m not on the team, why would I wear the jersey? I don’t wear scrubs to the doctor’s,” which Charlie quipped, as Harper rocked up decked out in Yankees threads. It’s all just super sweet and my heart hurt when they hugged.
3. The sweetest rom-com lines are in it
Somehow the film gets away with some potentially corny dialogue because the characters speaking it are just so damn likeable.
The final scene where they finally kiss gifts us with a very solid pickup line, which I shall reuse at my discretion.
So #SetItUp is actually a decent film and "you're not hard to get, you're hard to earn" may be one of the greatest romcom lines of the past decade.

The movie is chock-full of memorable rom-com lines that will make you feel all of the feels.
Netflix’s Set it Up is such a great rom com!! So cute and funny! Gives ya the warm fuzzies inside ? this is one of the many scenes that does that ? #SetItUp pic.twitter.com/u69CbCiXr7

4. When they eat pizza together, it’s perfect
As Harper and Charlie share a slow dance together at her BFF’s rooftop engagement party, they ditch the whole thing to get cheap pizza, as Harper says, “There’s no pizza on this roof, so I have to go.”
As they eat their pizza, it’s all about the lingering looks and it’s in this scene that the viewer realises they are perfect for each other.
The scene when Harper and Charlie share a pizza is basically softcore porn.

It’s just so damn cute.
5. The soundtrack is nostalgic AF
Imagine every cheesy rom-com soundtrack from the late ’90s. Well most of their famous tunes make a cameo in this film. No joke.
Very happy with the decision to make a romcom in 2018 that has the soundtrack of a romcom from 1999. It totally tells us the type of movie it’s supposed to be! Hats off! #SetItUp

From ‘I Only Want To Be With You’ by Dusty Springfield to ‘Romeo and Juliet’ by Dire Straits, the movie’s soundtrack is a blatant homage to predictable rom-com tunes and I ain’t mad.
