Facebook Have Released New Features To Banish Your Ex Lover From Your Life
Going through a breakup is an emotional rollercoaster. Having ‘the chat’ is hard enough, let alone dealing with the awkward unspoken rules of ‘officially’ changing your relationship status on Facebook. Do you unfriend your ex, untag yourself in all their photos and what will the repercussions be if one day you decide to get back together or worse, become friends?
Well Zuk and his FB-gang are aware of the pain and awkwardness that goes on when the digital component of your relationship fizzles out. Today they’ve announced a new set of tools to help people end their online relationship and overcome some of the challenges Facebook presents in bouncing back.
According to a Facebook Community Support FYI post, the company says:
When a relationship ends, we’ve heard from people that they sometimes have questions about the options available to them on Facebook.
Here are the tools that will begin rolling out in the US over the next month, with the features expected in Australia early next year. When people change their relationship status to indicate they are no longer in a relationship, they will be prompted to try these tools.
1. Banish them from your feed. Lover be gone!
See less of a former partner’s name and profile picture around Facebook without having to unfriend or block them. Their posts won’t show up in News Feed and their name won’t be suggested when people write a new message or tag friends in photos
2. Don’t let them see the fun your having without them
Limit the photos, videos or status updates that a former partner will see.
3. Destroy the evidence… Nothing to see here folks
Edit who can see their past posts with a former partner and untag themselves from posts with that person.
All of these tools are optional, and people will be able to access them in the help centre anytime.
Hopefully they won’t introduce algorithms that alert you when it’s time to end your relationship based on your stalking habits.
If these tools sound like something you might need in your life, we’ve got a little something to help ease the pain:
