Manchester officials have decided to honour Ariana Grande for her generous and heart-warming response to the tragic concert attack in May. News that is making us get all the feels.

America’s sweetheart will be the city’s first honourary citizen. The gesture is to show appreciation for Ariana’s presence and support in the wake of the deadly attack at her performance in Manchester, which took the lives of 22 concert-goers.

Ariana made visits to hospitalised fans and also returned to the city to headline the One Love Manchester benefit concert on June 4. Although the singer was feeling traumatised, she reached out and helped the city come to grips with the attack with very public solidarity with the victims and families.

City council leader Richard Leese proposed the honourary citizenship, as he described the 24-year-old singer as:

“A young American woman for whom it would have been understandable if she never wanted to see this place again.”

He said that Manchester was truly grateful that Grande returned to the city and “brought comfort to thousands and raised millions,” for an emergency fund with her benefit concert performance.

Congratulations Ariana you superstar! Don’t mind us, there’s just something in our eye…
