FERGALICIOUS: Fergie Has Been Forced To Apologise For Butchering The National Anthem
Yesterday, former Black Eyed Peas singer Fergie stepped up to sing the US national anthem at the NBA’s annual All-Star game. But instead of doing ‘The Star-Spangled Banner’ the traditional way, she went with something a little more… jazzy.
It, uh, didn’t exactly work:
No one in the arena could keep a straight face — even the famously kind Chance the Rapper couldn’t stop himself from laughing.
Now, after a bruising 18 hours online, Fergie has issued an apology for her performance that is straight-up heartbreaking:
“I’ve always been honoured and proud to perform the national anthem and last night I wanted to try something special for the NBA,” she told TMZ. “I’m a risk taker artistically, but clearly this rendition didn’t strike the intended tone. I love this country and honestly tried my best.”
It’s actually a very sad statement, and shows the risks when artists venture outside their comfort zone. Good on her for trying, I guess?
just once in my life i want to believe in myself the way fergie believed in herself during that national anthem performance
