It’s Finally Here! 5 Things You Need To Know About ‘Maze Runner: The Death Cure’
All of your burning questions will be answered in the explosive final chapter of the Maze Runner saga, in which Thomas and his friends must survive the most dangerous maze of all.
The final film of the epic Maze Runner saga is nearly here to give us the sweet action and answers we’ve been yearning for. Bring on: Maze Runner: The Death Cure.
It’s been a little while since the last Maze Runner film, so before we jump back into the deep end we’re going to brush up on exactly what just went down and get HYPED for the grand finale. Here’s everything you need to know.
1. A Lot Of Shit Went Down In The First Two Films
A quick refresher: in the first film, we met Thomas, who woke up in the middle of a complicated AF maze (controlled by a sinister organization known as WCKD), with no memory of his past. After banding together with a crew of other boys (known as the Gladers), Thomas and his squad struggled to find a way out of the maze… facing plenty of danger along the way.
After escaping the maze only to find out it was phase one of a sinister test, in Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials, the Gladers searched for clues about the mysterious organization WCKD, which was all about conducting experiments on teens (and guess who they were targeting next)?
Thomas and The Gladers managed to pull off a mad escape to the outside world, AKA The Scorch. Unfortunately, it turned out that The Scorch was bleak AF and full of Cranks (humans-turned-zombies infected with a deadly virus known as The Flare), and when we left him, Thomas vowed to get his revenge against WCKD.
2. The Stakes Are Ever Higher This Time Around
Phase two was wild. Between escaping the labs and finally finding the Right Arm resistance group, a whoooole lot of shit goes down. There are enough close calls, epic stunts, blood, sweat and tears to keep your mind going about a million miles an hour just to keep up.
Note to self: the Maze Runner films will cause heart palpitations so prepare to feel that adrenaline high.
3. Rat Man/WCKD Are More Evil Than Ever
Who could forget Janson (AKA Rat Man, AKA Little Finger for all the GoT fans out there) and Ava Paige, our creepy antagonists who were on the hunt for the Glader crew?
When we left off, they were still on their mission to hunt our fave crew down, and they definitely had the upper hand in terms of manpower and equipment. In the last film, all WCKD wants is to slowly drain the kids of their immunity fluids to try to harvest a death cure – and they’ll stop at nothing to get there. Things are getting serious, guys.
4. We’ll Get To See How Thomas And Teresa Get On After Her Major Betrayal
You’ll recall that Teresa (Kaya Scodolerio) pulled a mega SNAKE move at the end of Scorch Trials and ratted out the gang to WCKD because she thought it was the right thing to do. TRAITOR.
Not that romantic endeavours are the most important priority in the post-apocalyptic landscape, but is it too much to ask that Thomas and Teresa get back together?
Gear up for some high-intensity friction in the finale. Hopefully, between the loyalties and the betrayals, those two can just work things out.
5. We’ll Finally Get The Answers To Our Burning Questions
While in The Scorch, our boy Thomas spotted a city in the distance, and this my friends, is our final maze. Except this time, instead of breaking out, they’ve gotta break in.
The legendary Last City is a WCKD-controlled labyrinth that is set up to be the deadliest maze of all… and it’s the only way the Gladers can get the answers to the questions they’ve been asking since they first arrived in the maze.
We’re praying that they get in and out alive because we’re itching for answers to all of our Maze Runner questions too – and all signs point to the fact that we’ll be getting them in this film, the last instalment of the series.
