Old mate Flume (the moniker of Sydney lad Harley Streten) is back in 2016 with his second studio album ‘Skins‘. It’s been a long time between drinks for Streten who dropped  “Some Minds (feat. Andrew Wyatt)” and his “Drop the Game” colab with Chet Faker in 2015. Apart from that, there’s been scatted remixes, but no big release of new original tunes since his self titled album over three years ago. Oh, how time flies.

A video uploaded to Flume’s Facebook page this morning shows off a collection of his new sounds which will appear on the seemingly more abstract new LP.

From what we can hear, this 5-min taster explores a whole new dimension of sounds when compared to the hip-hop instrumentals and recent pop-friendly remixes he’s been dishing out over the past 12 months. That being said, he still retains his trademark Flumey-hues that have helped him crossover and win over a broad spectrum of fans worldwide.

In November 2012 Flume dropped a remix of Hermitude‘s ‘HyperParadise‘ following brief triple J unearthed success with tracks ‘Possum‘ and ‘Sleepless‘ the previous year. This success was followed by a deal with the then emerging Aussie label Future Classic, a self titled album that peaked at number one on the ARIA charts and subsequently went 2x platinum and over two years of global tours. In many ways, Flume’s signature style and breakout success helped pave the way for many more Aussie electronic exports who have managed to find audiences outside of Aus.

There’s certainly a huge level anticipation for ‘Skin‘, so it will be interesting to see how it hits here and overseas. Take it for a spin below.
