Legendary rockers, Foo Fighters have today dropped a surprise EP online as a tribute to the Paris attack victims.

The free five-song EP, titled Saint Cecilia can be downloaded via the bands site here or from iTunes. You can also stream it via Apple Music and Spotify (see below). Those vinyl inclined will also be able to purchase a hard copy from the site.

In an open letter, frontman Dave Grohl provides a detailed explanation for the release.

Originally the EP was intended to be as a “celebration of life and music” for their fans, however it took on an “entirely different tone” after the attacks in Paris, which forced the band to cancel the rest of its world tour.

An excerpt from Grohl’s letter says,

Now, there is a new, hopeful intention that, even in the smallest way, perhaps these songs can bring a little light into this sometimes dark world. To remind us that music is life, and that hope and healing go hand in hand with song. That much can never be taken away.

To all who were affected by the atrocities in Paris, loved ones and friends, our hearts go out to you and your families. We will return and celebrate life and love with you once again someday with our music. As it should be done.
