The Girl Who Had A Dance Party Shut Down By The Cops Just Threw Another One
Earlier this month Christie Aucamp-Schutte, the woman behind Free Dance Party, rocked up to Vivid in Sydney with a sign, a boombox, and her best dance moves, but her dance party was shut down by police.
Christie, who often starts impromptu dance-fests, noticed the presence of police and rangers after half an hour of dancing. “I was only aware they were shutting me down when they came right up to me,” she said at the time.
She later posted footage of the incident to her Facebook page.
Well, the good news is Christie’s dancing spirit hasn’t been quashed.
Christie teamed with Coca-Cola to throw a Free Dance Party earlier this evening so everyone could enjoy a good old fashioned boogie. The impromptu dance fest was held in Circular Quay and drew quite the crowd, who also got a chance to sample Coca-Cola’s brand new drink Coca-Cola Energy.
As for Christie, she’s just excited people wanted to join in and dance it out.
“Free Dance Party is my small attempt to spark more real-life connections and breathe a little life back into the streets. Although dancing can feel a bit awkward or embarrassing at times, it’s just so good for the soul,” she said.
Coca-Cola were more than happy to jump on board, with Marketing Director Lucie Austin saying they were just happy to bring people together in positive and uplifting ways.
Who doesn’t love dancing it out just in time for the weekend?

Returning to the Scene of the Crime
Aww yeah baby – after a disappointing shut down last time, Free Dance Party is back in the habitat. Cheers @Coca-Cola Australia and the launch of #CokeEnergy for providing me a space to do my thang at Circular Quay and sponsoring tonight’s party. Thanks to everyone who got into it, seeing everyone cutting shapes on the DF made me really happy. Let’s make Sydney dance again.
