FRIEND LIKE ME: Here’s Who We Think Should Play Jafar In Disney’s Live Action Aladdin Remake
This week we finally found out who will be playing Aladdin and Jasmine in the upcoming live-action adaption of Aladdin.
With Mena Massoud and Naomi Scott confirmed to be joining Will Smith as the Genie, the big question now is: who will play the villain Jafar?
While studio executives sent the internet into a spin last week with an insider claiming they were struggling to cast Aladdin, what no one is talking about is Jafar – who is BY FAR the best character. No arguments IMHO.
Like most Disney villains, Jafar has the funniest lines and we were all secretly rooting for him (okay, not so much when he tries to enslave Jasmine), but tbh he would make a much better Sultan than that bubbling dweeb with teeny tiny feet.
So we decided to compile a list of actors that’d nail the role of Jafar in Guy Ritchie’s live-action version, and we expect it to be a big name.
Here’s 5 actors that we reckon should be leading contenders:
Sir Ben Kingsley
This would almost fit too easy. Pictured below in Iron Man 3, he could play the hell out of of Jafar, and has the age and experience to Kings-slay the role. You’re welcome.
Hugo Weaving
Is this not perfection? Lately Hugh has struggled to play any role when he doesn’t come off as low-key evil. It seems to come naturally to him. He could offer a new take on Jafar and has proven work where he takes on a role and makes it his own.
Johnny Depp
It physically pains me to say this, but Depp could bloody nail the role of Jafar. Maybe it’s because being a bad person comes rather naturally to him. Maybe it’s because coming from the Tim Burton universe, we know he can twist any character in an unexpected way.
Don Cheadle
This. Would. Be. Epic. There is something about Don’s presence that strikes me right to my core. He’s Jafar. He is Jafar. Okay, he’s not. But should definitely be a contender.
Tom Hardy
While not the top of my list, Hardy is the only name that has been rumoured to be in serious talks for the role with Richie. Either way, we know he can nail playing a villain, taking on Bane in The Dark Knight Rises, so Hardy can probs deliver the goods.
COME ON DISNEY… it’s not hard. Make this happen and take my money. We need this.
