Reddit Has Ranked The Greatest ‘GoT’ Characters & They Couldn’t Be More Wrong
Now that Game of Thrones is over (*sobs*) all that is left to do is obsess over just what made the series such a phenomenon.
Throughout the show, Reddit has been a hub for GoT theories and a place where fans could discuss and debate each new episode. Popular subreddit r/freefolk recently asked its 1 million subscribers to rank their ten fave characters with user @YelmerMotmanns compiling a list of the top 50 greatest GoT characters based on the votes.
The findings were, err…interesting.
This was the top 10 greatest Game of Thrones characters according to Reddit:
#10. Oberyn Martell
#9. Cersei Lannister
#8. Davos Seaworth
#7. Daenerys Targaryen
#6. Sandor Clegan
#5. Ned Stark
#4. Tyrion Lannister
#3. Jon Snow
#2. Jaime Lannister
#1. Tywin Lannister
Ugh, where do I begin…
There are only two female characters that made the top 10 and considering the series was often driven by strong women this seems like a massive oversight. Neither Arya (11) or Sansa (20) made the top 10 which, to me, is criminal.
Even the boss bitch of Westeros, Cersei Lannister, was ranked a measly ninth and below characters Sandor Clegan and Davos Seaworth who are often sidelined. Are you serious?!
Then there’s the fact that Ned Stark was voted as the fifth best character. He was in the show ONE SEASON. This is hardly comparable to the rest of the characters.
There are a few positions that I do agree with. To me, Tywin Lannister is the greatest Game of Thrones villain. Compared to Joffrey Baratheon and Ramsay Bolton, his character was far more nuanced, probably because Charles Dance is just fucking phenomenal and made for that role. But should he be number one? Ugh, I don’t know.
I’ll admit both Tyrion and Jaime deserve to be in the top 10 but I can’t help but be baffled by characters like Brienne of Tarth and the Stark sisters missing out.
