This ‘GoT’ Theory About The Night King & The ‘Battle Of Winterfell’ Actually Makes A Lot Of Sense
Winter is officially here (well, in a GoT world anyway) and so are the Game of Thrones fan theories.
With just four episodes left of the series, fans are on edge as to how the story will end: from who will live, die, obtain the iron throne or be turned into ice zombies.
With the first two episodes of the season full of lighter moments and heartfelt reunions, things are about to take a much darker turn as the White Walkers and their army of wights descend on Winterfell in episode 3.
But a fan theory on Reddit suggests that there’s going to be a twist in the latest Game of Thrones episode that no one saw coming (not even creepy little Bran!).
And tbh, it checks out.
So far the Starks and co. are setting up for the Night King and his army to charge Winterfell.
But what if the Night King wasn’t actually joining in the Battle of Winterfell after all?
See, with everyone otherwise preoccupied it would be the perfect time for the Night King to travel onto King’s Landing.
The Reddit theory suggests that while most people are assuming the living will lose The Battle of Winterfell, they will actually win only to find out shortly after that there’s a new army of dead to defeat… and it’s going to be the population of King’s Landing.
And with the Night King’s army being 100,000 strong and growing, as mentioned in the Season 7 finale, it’d make sense to split it up to cover more ground with both Winterfell and King’s Landing.
Because in GoT, nothing is coincidental, let’s run through a couple of potential clues:
Back in Season 4, Bran had a vision where he saw a destroyed throne room and a dragon shadow passing over King’s Landing — while it was easy to assume it was Daenerys and her dragons, it could have actually been the Night King and Viserion.
And all the way back in Season 2, episode 10, Daenerys had a vision of the throne room in King’s Landing covered in snow.
With Bran being marked by the Night King, there’s no rush to get to him first. He can return to find Bran with his army of undead from King’s Landing… just a casual million or so of them, as mentioned in Season 7.
Now, the one extra thing to mention is the fact Cersei sent Bronn north in the first episode of this season, so there’s a chance he might see the Night King and his army heading down south.
But will be it be enough warning?
