Gigi Hadid being arrested for having marijuana and drug paraphernalia on her wasn’t on my bingo card for this year, but here we are. She’s since been released, and in typical celeb fashion, she’s gotten away with it almost scot-free.

Here’s what happened: the supermodel was stopped at customs after her private plane landed in George Town, Grand Cayman for a vacay with her girlfriends. According to TMZ, the border officials found “a small amount of weed and smoking utensils” in one of her friends’ bags.

However, since the plane is in Gigi’s name, all contents become her responsibility, which is how she got involved. The source also claims that the border agents wanted to be “paid off”, but Gigi refused.

It’s hard to know what’s true, because TMZ published another update after the story went live, saying that the Cayman border officials “categorically deny the bribery-related allegation”.

“We invite Ms. Hadid to make a formal complaint to our Professional Standards Unit so that they can independently review the case in order to determine if there is any evidence to support her allegation,” they told TMZ

Even though officials deemed the cannabis as being for “personal use only”, Gigi and her friend still ended up being arrested for importing marijuana and smoking utensils. The pair were sent to the Royal Cayman Islands Detention Center, before being released on bail.

Two days later, Gigi and her friend made a court appearance, where they were given a slap on the wrist in the form of a $1000 fine, but no criminal conviction. The model’s spokesperson told E! Online that the marijuana had been “purchased legally in NYC with a medical license”.

“It has also been legal for medical use in Grand Cayman since 2017. Her record remains clear and she enjoyed the rest of her time on the island.”

And in true Gigi fashion, she was truly ~unbothered~ by the lil detour. If you take one glance at her Instagram, all you see is a group of friends enjoying the sunshine in the Cayman Islands. Take a closer look, though, and you’ll spot a cheeky nod to the situ in one of her captions. “All’s well that ends well,” the model wrote.
