GR8: US College Is Teaching ‘Game Of Thrones’ Languages So We Can Talk To Dragons
The future is now, and soon enough a small chunk of humans will be able to converse in the languages present in ‘Game of Thrones’; it’s a little-known series, you may have heard of it.
A six-week course will be taught at UC Berkeley titled ‘The Linguistics of Game of Thrones and the Art of Language Invention’. The class will be under the instruction of linguist David J. Peterson, who created the Dothraki and High Valyrian languages spoken in the TV series.
We can finally live the dream and learn how to talk to dragons… just like their Targaryen mother.

The university’s publication Berkeley News reports that the seven kingdoms of Westeros, “will serve as a kind of framing device for the course so students can focus on the linguistic details of their creations, not the fictional side.”
Peterson knows his stuff when it comes to linguistics, having created languages spoken on series’ ‘Defiance’, ‘Emerald City’, ‘The 100’, and MTV’s ‘Shannara Chronicles’.
