It’s obvious that Harrison Ford’s space crusades as Han Solo are an integral part of the Star Wars franchise. Now it’s been revealed just how desperate Disney were to secure the American actor’s services.

According to The Daily Mail, the 73-year-old Hollywood veteran was paid a ridiculous $34.7 million to feature once again in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. On top of that, it’s also rumoured that he’ll receive 0.5% of profits from the film, which will be at least $15 million. This means that Ford’s final payout could be one of the biggest of any actor of all-time.

It’s clear that Ford’s management are the kings of playing hardball. This move has paid off for them, with a salary lightyears ahead of fellow cast members. He was reportedly paid around 76 times more than newcomers Daisy Ridley (Rey) and John Boyega (Finn).

An unnamed source from Disney has spoken out, saying:

[easy-tweet tweet=”Harrison is the key to making this movie work. He’s the link between the old generation and the new. Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher were good to get, but the film could have lived without them. You couldn’t make it without Harrison Ford.” hashtags=”StarWars”]

Other high-profile stars were also paid significantly less, with Carrie Fisher receiving just over $2 million to play Princess Leia and director J. J Abrams netting himself just $6.8 million for writing, directing and producing the film.

The opening weekend statistics for Star Wars: The Force Awakens were out of this world, smashing the records with a $A334.4 million taking in US and Canadian ticket sales. Experts are predicting that it will make more than $2.7 billion worldwide.
