It all seemed too good to be true. News of a version of Pokémon Go that brings JK Rowling’s world of Harry Potter into real life – transforming everyday muggles into Hogwart’s wizards – was met with a chorus of celebration.

With the smash-hit success of Pokémon Go, it made perfect sense for another cultural phenomenon to branch out.

But sadly, that rumour was all but just a rumour, a bit of goss that was based on nothing. JTHX News broke the story, even accrediting quotes to Niantic’s senior developers. Unfortunately, it turns out JTHX News isn’t a real media organisation, and the group are known for creating fake stories.

If your hopes and dreams have been dashed (like mine) then with that disappointment, we decided to create our own hypothetical mashups for our fave pop culture phenomenons.

Here’s the next real-life gaming apps, we think need to happen:

Lord of the Rings Go

Real-life will transform into Middle Earth, as you venture through the lands of hobbits, elves and dwarfes. Instead of collecting Poké Balls, you can pick up members of the fellowship, while battling orcs and protecting Frodo at all costs. Gandalf will pop up from time to time, to guide your quest. But watch out for Gollum and his many personalities. Of course, finding the most coveted item – the one ring to rule them all – wins you the game.
