Netflix’s television series Heartbreak High has arrived to make your teen years feel desperately uncool by comparison.

The eight-episode reboot of the beloved ’90s Australian drama revolves around a group of high schoolers as they navigate friendships, dating, family drama, and above all, their complicated ideas around sex and consent while attending Hartley High.

So far, the Australian series has been widely internationally praised for its diverse cast, depiction of autism, and representation of Indigenous Australians.

And there’s one thing that people online can also agree on: the main character Amerie, played by Australian actress and musician Ayesha Madon, looks uncannily like late American actress, Brittany Murphy.

Like, I AM SPOOKED.

In some scenes, she looked more like Brittany Murphy than Brittany Murphy. You can’t tell me this isn’t giving Tai Frasier energy?!

Heartbreak High fans agree that Ayesha looks freakishly like the Clueless actress. From her eyes to her facial expressions and mannerisms, there’s something distinctly Brittany about Ayesha’s debut role in the teen drama.

Along with looking a lot like Murphy, Ayesha’s character Amerie goes through a similar journey as Brittany’s Tai on Clueless: she starts out as a school outcast but slowly builds popularity among her peers. Amerie’s fashion sense is also influenced by a mostly ’90s grunge aesthetic, which again feels like a huge Clueless throwback.

Brittany was 17 years old when she made her film debut in 1995’s Clueless, while Ayesha was 24 years old when she made her Netflix debut. Brittany was an American actress/singer, while Ayesha is a South Asian actress/singer who grew up in Melbourne, Australia.

The Uptown Girls actress tragically died in 2009 at the age of 32 under mysterious circumstances. Before her death, Brittany had starred in a range of iconic cult ’00s movies including Clueless, Drop Dead Gorgeous, Girl, Interrupted, and 8 Mile.
