It’s a Christmas miracle… Heartbreak High is coming back!

It’s been over 20 years since the original Heartbreak High ended, but Netflix is giving fans of the show everything they could possibly want and more. Just weeks after the series found its way onto the streaming service, Netflix has announced that it is commissioning a reboot of the show.

The Reboot We Didn’t Know We Needed

The Netflix reboot of Heartbreak High is going to be inspired by the much-loved, Aussie, young adult programme but totally reimagined for the new generation.

Netflix made the announcement for the Heartbreak High reboot today on Twitter, sharing a logo of the original ABC/ Channel 10 series.

I mean, the nostalgia is absolutely rushing back, but if they don’t bring back the original theme song, then forget about it.

Sadly, the Heartbreak High reboot won’t hit our laptop screens until 2022.

What We Know So Far…

In terms of the intricate details, the show is being produced by Fremantle Australia and NewBe and will run for eight episodes. The show hasn’t been cast yet and it’s unclear whether some of the original cast will return in one way, shape or form.

Screen NSW is also helping out with the series, which has us wondering if they will film the show at Maroubra Bay High School like its predecessor…

A Word From Netflix

Que Minh Luu, Netflix’s Director of Originals in Australia, said: “We haven’t had a rebellious Australian YA series on screen since the original Heartbreak High, so this is well overdue. The new Heartbreak High is for young people in Australia today to feel seen – showcasing their stories, senses of humour and aesthetics to the world, and reminding everyone that they are much, much cooler than us. It’s also for the 90s kids, fans of the original series who remember what it’s like to feel understood by a TV show, then racking off. This Netflix show will be ours, and we can’t wait to get started.”

All 210 episodes of the original series of Heartbreak High are streaming now on Netflix, if you feel like a hit of nostalgia during these terrible times. Watch episode one here:
