If, like me, you enjoy cinema that doesn’t just intrigue but leaves you psychologically tormented forever, then we have a selection of scary movies to appease any horror fan.

Last year was a MASSIVE year for horror, with standout flicks It, Get Out and It Comes At Night, but 2018 might just surpass it with what we’ve seen in store. Get ready to be spooked out of your brain.

Here are our top picks for 2018 horror films that’ll scare the living daylights out of ya:

1. A Quiet Place

A Quiet Place is just as terrifying as everyone says and is a truly unique movie experience, largely without spoken dialogue. Our hot tip: leave the crunchy/noisy snacks at home.

Out at selected cinemas now.

2. Slender Man

If you’re a native to the interwebs, the Slender Man legend will be all too familiar to you and it probably still freaks you the fuck out.

The myth – which led to the IRL stabbing of a 12-year-old girl – has inspired this new film and it actually looks terrifying.

Hits cinemas August 23, 2018.

3. The Nun

Another follow-up film from The Conjuring’s spooky universe. This time around the nun that’s haunted Ed and Lorraine Warren throughout the previous films gets its own origin story. Yikes!

Hits cinemas September 6, 2018.

4. Truth or Dare

This looks super freaky. The film follows a group of college friends as they travel to Mexico and play a seemingly harmless game of truth or dare, which (of course!) awakens a demon. Fun! I’ll stick with Monopoly. Thnx.

Out at selected cinemas now.

5. Unsane

This movie is probz closer to a psychological horror, but that doesn’t mean it won’t scare the shit outta you. The story follows a woman who accidentally finds herself committed into a behavioural centre, as she questions what is happening and whether it’s all in her head.

You can expect a massive twist that’ll keep you thinking looooong after the credits roll.

Out at selected cinemas now.

6. The Strangers: Prey at Night

A follow-up film to Liv Tyler’s 2008 classic flick, this time around Christina Hendricks heads the cast, as a family stranded at a secluded mobile home park find themselves surrounded by three masked psychopaths. It’ll fuck you right up.

Available to rent/buy on iTunes.

7. Hereditary

This film will have to be the most buzzed about horror movie so far this year. It wowed at Sundance Film Fest and was quickly labelled one of the scariest films EVER.

Our own Toni Collette plays a woman who discovers dark secrets about her ancestry following the death of her mother. The trailer alone sends me into a spiral, tbh.

Hits cinemas June 7, 2018.

8. Halloween

The classic horror franchise is back with Jamie Lee Curtis to reprise her iconic role. The finer details are hush-hush but we’re told the film will pretend that Halloween: H20 and Halloween: Resurrection never even happened. All we have at this point is this first movie poster below.

Hits cinemas October 18, 2018.
