Here’s Everything We Know About The ‘Pretty Little Liars’ Spin-Off ‘The Perfectionists’
After seven seasons, Pretty Little Liars ended mid-last year and fans felt the loss hard. But in good news, it’s been officially announced that PLL spin-off The Perfectionists has been picked up by Freeform for a 10-episode order.
The new series dubbed is also based on Sara Shepard novels and will be set in the same universe as PLL. Series showrunner I.Marlene King will also be joining the spin-off.
“Pretty Little Liars was a cultural phenomenon so it’s no wonder fans wanted more,” said the Freeform network’s executive vice president Karey Burke.
“We can’t wait to continue I.Marlene King’s rich and revolutionary storytelling with a new crop of leading ladies from Beacon Heights who will hold just as many secrets and lies as Rosewood did.”
This series will be PLL‘s second attempt at a spin-off series, following 2013’s short-lived Ravenswood.
Here’s everything we know about The Perfectionists:
What will the series be about?
The synopsis for the pilot reads:
“Everything about the town of Beacon Heights seems perfect, from their top-tier college to their overachieving residents. But nothing in Beacon Heights is as it appears to be.
“The stress of needing to be perfect leads to the town’s first murder. Behind every Perfectionist is a secret, a lie and a needed alibi.”
What is the story based on?
The new series will be based on Shepard’s Perfectionists book series launched in 2014.
The books follow Ava, Caitlin, Mackenzie, Julie and Parker in their struggle to be perfect – hence the title. The girls unite over their hatred of the same person: womaniser Nolan Hotchkiss.
But because this is in the PLL universe, of course, they decide to murder him. However, before they can enact their plan Nolan is found dead in the exact way the gang had planned to kill him.
Who is on board?
Alongside King, who wrote the pilot, PLL’s Leslie Morgenstein and Gina Girolamo will executive produce.
Actors Sasha Pieterse and Janel Parrish will reprise their roles as Alison DiLaurentis and Mona Vanderwaal. While their characters aren’t in the book, they will be worked into the series. The series will also star Sofia Carson, Sydney Park, Eli Brown, Graeme Thomas King, Kelly Rutherford and Hayley Erin.
When can we expect to see it?
The series is expected to debut sometime in 2019!
