The OG ‘High School Musical’ Cast Is Coming Back And Child Me Is Screaming

Calling all wildcats! The original cast of High School Musical are set to reunite for Season 4 of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, and even though the title is a tongue-twister, I am geeked!

News broke of this reunion during Disney’s D23 expo that happened over the weekend, alongside the first glimpse of the live-action Little Mermaid starring Halle Bailey and the trailer for Disenchanted, the long-awaited sequel to the 2007 film Enchanted. 

High School Musical: The Musical: The Series: The Reunion (what a mouthful) is set to pick up straight from Season 3 and honestly the whole plot sounds like a musical multiverse of madness.

“On their first day back, the principal announces that Disney has decided to make the long-awaited High School Musical 4: The Reunion movie on location at their beloved high school, and our Wildcats will be playing featured extras in the movie. It’s season four, and it’s now or never,” the D23 website reads. 

And if that plot summary has confused you, don’t worry you’re not alone. A lot of HSM fans have taken to Twitter to share their excitement and confusion.

Some cast members from the original High School Musical movies have already made an appearance on the Disney+ show, including Lucas Grabreel (Ryan), Kaycee Stroh (Martha) and Corbin Bleu (Chad), however they played themselves rather than the characters they were in the original movies.

Disney hasn’t said who will be back, but I do have an inkling that Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens might make an appearance. Both celebs took pics outside of East High (the high school where the movies are set) back in July.

And if you didn’t know, Zac and Vanessa were the two main leads in the original trilogy AKA Troy Bolton and Gabriella Montez.

There’s no set air date for Season 4 just yet, but we know that this ‘reunion’ will not be counted as an official High School Musical 4. It will just be another part of the High School Musical: The Series universe, so I doubt we’ll be getting any random musical breaks like Troy’s ‘Bet On It’ in HSM2. 

But if Sharpay Evans doesn’t make a comeback, there will be problems!
