House Of Cards’ First Season 5 Trailer Is Here And America Is Hopelessly Screwed

It’s going to be hard not to view the upcoming season of House of Cards as a giant comment on America under Trump. Series creator Beau Willimon has been extremely vocal in his criticism of the President, going so far as to call on Congress to remove him from office. The series even dropped its first teaser trailer right in the middle of Trump’s inauguration, a move with all the subtly of throwing a journalist in front of a train.

In reality though, Presidents Trump and Underwood are very different people. One is a liar and a bully who has shown nothing but contempt for the democratic process and the people he is meant to represent. The other is a fictional character played by Kevin Spacey.

Aaaaanyway, Netflix has just released the first full trailer for the show’s fifth season, and I’ll be honest with you: things do not look good for America. Emboldened by the events of last season, Frank and Claire seem more determined than ever to hold onto power, term limits be damned.

“The American people don’t know what’s best for them,” muses Frank. “They’re like little children. We have to hold their sticky fingers and wipe their filthy mouths. Teach them right from wrong. Tell them what to think and how to feel and what to want. They even need help writing their wildest dreams, crafting their worst fears. Lucky for them, they have me.”
