The Hunger Games Is Set To Open A Theme Park In 2019

While the odds of backing today’s winner in the Melbourne Cup weren’t exactly easy, they might be ‘ever in your favour‘ when it comes to attending a Hunger Games theme park.

The prospect of a theme park celebrating children fighting to the death may seem far-fetched, but Lionsgate have teamed up with Avatron Smart Park to build a 100-acre attraction that will ultimately do just that.

Expected to open in 2019 and costing a cool $625 million (according to The New York Times), die hard fans of The Hunger Games phenomenon can soon make their dream of visiting District 12 a reality. With one in China and another in Atlanta, the series of theme parks hope to capitol’ise (ba’dom-ting) on the success of the franchise while offering a fan experience like no other. The NY Times reports:

After passing through the gates, visitors will arrive in a re-creation of the fictional District 12, a mining region where Katniss grew up. There will be costumed characters and real-life versions of Peeta Mellark’s bakery and the Hob black market.

Although the specifics of the park are yet to be revealed, there’s plenty to get excited about. Perhaps the chance to don Katniss’ famous flaming dress? A rollercoaster simulating the train ride to the Capitol? Your guess is as good as mine.

Despite being in its initial stages of planning, there’s no doubt in saying the hype surrounding the theme parks will be huge and if they’re looking for fans to test out the new spectacle- I’ll volunteer as tribute.
