Megan And Gracie Recall ‘Terrifying’ Moment During ‘Hunted’

If you’re like me, you’ve been busy yelling at the TV for the past few nights. Yep, Hunted Australia Season 2 is in full swing, and I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve declared I would never do what the fugitives have done. But, as you know, it’s TV, and it’s not that simple.

Beautician duo Megan and Gracie were caught this week, and while they defs turned into Olympic athletes when the hunters appeared at the caravan park, they were backed into a corner. Or in Megan’s case, a bush.

So, why can’t the fugitives just go off-grid and wait it out for 21 days? There’s these pesky little rules that come into play, and they’re designed to make it hard for the contestants.

Punkee chatted to Megan and Gracie about the rules they had to follow on the road, what it felt like when the hunters arrived in dramatic fashion, and how Megan coped with a pretty nasty injury.

Megan and Gracie on what the Hunted rules are:

Megan: “We have to stay within 350 kilometres of Melbourne’s CBD. So you know, we’ve got a fair bit of scope to be a loose fugitive. You get given cash at the beginning, but you receive more as you go along. You start off with $50 cash and $50 on an ATM card, and you can work to earn more money along the way.”

“We do have to stay on the move. A lot of people would love us to go and sit in a shed for 21 days but that’s against the rules and would make for really terrible TV. So it’s all about us kind of making sure that we stay on the move and putting ourselves in positions where the hunters can potentially catch us.”

Gracie: “You have to have the hunters on social media as well. A lot of people wonder why we do that, it’s because it’s TV.”

Megan and Gracie on the interesting way they made money on Hunted

Megan: “We could definitely earn money on the run, so we did that. Gracie being a beauty therapist was able to earn us $100 cash from doing some eyelash extensions, which, on the run, which was brilliant. Everyone wants eyelash extensions, so finding a client was pretty easy.”

Gracie: “Actually, Nicolette, who we did, she had never had them before. And it was kind of right in front of her and she’d always thought about it and I was like let’s do it! I packed the eyelash extensions and equipment mainly so Megs and I could infill our eyelashes, but we knew we could make some money off it on the way.”

Megan and Gracie on their dramatic Hunted capture:

Gracie: “Oh my god it gives us PTSD thinking about it.”

Megan: “The noise of the cars coming in so fast on gravel will stay with me for the rest of my life. We said a few explicits as we jumped different fences.”

Gracie: “It felt like honestly, it was all within a split second. Megan and I could not see where each other went when we both ran, we both thought each other got caught. When I found out Megan had escaped, I was very impressed.”

Megan: “It was terrifying being on my own, I ran as far as I could until I found a spot to hide in the bush. I heard the hunters say they had caught Gracie, and my heart sank. I was trying to figure out how to go on and make her proud, but I’d cut my hand during my getaway so I was a bit worried about that.”

Gracie: “She had sliced her hand open and was dripping blood, but her instincts to hold her hand up and keep it over her heart, with my nursing background I was so proud.”

Megan: “I sat for as long as I could to wait them out, but they mentioned something about bringing in dogs and I completely shit myself. I was like nah, I’m out of here.”

Megan and Gracie on if they’d discussed splitting up prior:

Megan: “We didn’t want to but we made sure that each of us had a bum bag in it with supplies. We each had a book full of our contacts and resources, with names and numbers mixed up so that if the hunters caught one of us, they wouldn’t be able to understand what was written inside. We also had cash and a Mars bar in our bum bags, and we never took them off as part of our gameplay. We knew that at any point they’d turn up, which did happen, so we were grateful that we had our bags on us.”

Gracie: “We knew if it came to it we would split up. We’re both super independent and strong. If it was the only option, we would be fine, but it was a last resort.”
