Queensland duo Glenn Azar and Taylah Robertson were defs the ones to watch on Hunted, but their journey came to an end on Sunday night. Glenn has a military background, while Taylah is a professional boxer, so it was obvious the confident duo were going to fight until the very end.

They had so many near misses, and tbh, if it was me, I’d be far too stressed to handle having the hunters hot on my tail. Glenn and Taylah seemed to thrive on pressure, but there were some rules that made the fugitives’ time difficult, and sadly, we didn’t get to see all of their grand plans.

Punkee spoke to Glenn about the extent of Taylah’s boxing training while juggling life as a fugitive and how intense the pressure was for their Hunted camera crew.

On the rules that stopped Glenn from ‘sleeping on the side of the road’:

“You can’t just stay anywhere, so because I’m ex-military, my idea was that I’d sleep on the side of the road or in a park. Due to the rules, you can’t really do that. You’re not allowed to break the law, whereas if you’re an actual fugitive, I’m sure breaking the law would not be a concern. Your cameraman and producer remind you of what the rules are, because otherwise you’d probably go rogue.”

On if the camera crew filming them is a dead giveaway:

“The camera crews do a very good job across the board, but they’re not invisible, obviously. That does create some issues, but where we actually ended up getting caught, the camera angle didn’t really show it, but we were laying down and we weren’t really visible. It was only when the hunters came up our street that they saw those pink pants that Taylah was wearing under the car. That’s what gave us away.”

On their grand plans for later in the hunt:

“We had some things we didn’t even get to use. So when we got to Mornington Peninsula, we actually had a boat that we were going to use from there to go across the bay. If we’d got past another 20 or so minutes, we would have been gone again. But, unfortunately, that wait was what killed us, and we got to our waiting point a little bit too early. We also had an aeroplane organised as well, but we didn’t get to use it.

On all the near misses during their time on the run:

“I spent so long in the army, so I didn’t really feel much pressure. Our cameraman Adam said that he didn’t know how we were handling it, because his nerves were shot. But whenever we had a near miss, we were really relaxed. I think because of Taylah’s background as an elite-level athlete and my military background, we managed to deregulate really quickly. Our cameraman e actually said, ‘How long could you do this for this tempo?’. And my answer was that we were ready to run at this pace for 21 days.”

On why Glenn and Taylah had to go to boxing gyms during the show:

“Taylah had a fight scheduled four or five weeks after, in Canada. We had to fit training in twice a day, mostly training in parks and in friends’ backyards. But, we did have to go to a boxing gym to get some sparring in, because she needed that competitiveness.”

On if the pair had discussed splitting up before getting caught:

“We had talked about splitting up, but only from the point of view that if something goes wrong, or one of us gets caught. We’d never tactically wanted to split up, because this was about the experience. We like to win but this wasn’t about winning for us. We just wanted to do something that we could experience together that was different to anything we’d never done.”

On the chaos when the hunters finally cornered them:

“It’s tough because the hunters have vehicles, but I still thought we could get away. When Taylah took off and the hunter slipped, that’s when I took off from behind the fence and I was running down the road. I thought I would have got away if Jason’s car and Nikki’s car hadn’t come up the road, but as soon as I saw them, I knew I was trapped. Otherwise, I think I would’ve got away.”
