Instagram has started to roll out a new feature that will help you take your stalk game up a level.

It’s a subtle touch that could easily go unnoticed but makes a big difference to your instacreep.

Users have discovered a new search bar appearing when clicking on users list of ‘followers’ and ‘following’. Instead of scrolling through e-v-e-r-y one, you’ll be able to quickly see who someone follows / does not follow back.  But the feature isn’t all good news. Now your followers will be able to quickly see if you follow them back without leaving the app and installing third party tools ~ *ehhh sorry in advance mum*

Mashable reports that the new feature is being tested by Instagram among a select group of users – so you might not see it on your account just yet. The folk behind the operation at Facebook HQ are keeping quiet on what it all means, with the Instagram team yet to make any announcement.

Here’s what the search bar looks like in action:

People who have spotted the update seem to be completely positive about the news, but some tech blogs have reported that this is further proof the company is shifting Instagram closer to the Facebook model where users will  compete for cut-through and attention.

Instagram have started making a bunch of new changes to the app following Facebook’s acquisition of the image sharing tool for $1 Billion USD back in 2012.

Following the introduction of sponsored posts across 2013/14, the team are working on a new Facebook style algorithm that sorts images based on your interests/followers. Currently it’s still in beta with changes yet to be rolled out to everyone:

No doubt, this feature will begin limiting reach of posts and encourage wannabe #instacelebs to start paying to boost their content to reach their followers. Currently on Facebook, pages are likely to reach between 5-10% of followers (if they’re lucky).  So far, this news IS NOT going down well.

It’s interesting days for gramers – stay posted.
