Jill Meagher’s Killer Has Had His Prison Sentence Reduced

Convicted murderer and rapist Adrian Earnest Bayley has been successful in his appeal against a rape conviction.

The man responsible for the horrendous death of Melbourne woman Jill Meagher in September 2012, has had his minimum jail term reduced by three years to an overall forty years.

43-year-old Bayley won an appeal against one of three separate rape convictions, which were unrelated to his conviction against Meagher.

The assault in question was committed by Bayley in 2000. He was identified by the victim as her attacker via a missing persons Facebook page for Meagher.

The Victorian Court of Appeal made their judgement based on a lack of evidence to allow a jury to convict Bayley without prejudice – due to his already infamous public persona.

The other two appeals against a second rape conviction and a sentence for third conviction were both dismissed.

Bayley will now be eligible for parole in 2055. He will be 83 years-old.
