8 Epic Summer Adventures You Can Have In Jindabyne

Brought to you by Kosciuszko Pale Ale

Born in the Snowy Mountains, Beer with Altitude.

Nestled in the heart of NSW’s epic Snowy Mountains, Jindabyne gets a huge wrap each winter for its proximity to skiing and sweet powder. Yet Jindy is so much more than just a cold-weather getaway.

The adventure lives on year-round up here, with heaps to do and see. From wakeboarding on the lake, to waterfall treks through nearby Kosciuszko National Park, to a fresh-brewed Kosci Pale at the Banjo Patterson Inn, the Jindabyne summer gives just as much as its cooler months, with some of the best activities in the region – and heaps smaller crowds.

To get you pumped for the warmer months, we’re taking a run through some of the best adventures for an epic Jindabyne jaunt.

#1 Wakeboarding On Lake Jindy

One of the best things about Jindabyne is that rippling lake: the eponymous and expansive stretch of water right on the town’s shoreline. It might get a little crisp in the wintertime but, come summer, Lake Jindy is a hotbed of outdoor action, with wakeboarding right at top of the list.

#2 Water Sports To The Max

The sheer size and spectacular scenery of Lake Jindabyne lends itself to a whole lot more than wakeboarding, too – at close to 1000m above sea level, the lake is water-sport central, conducive to excellent water-skiing, sailing, and canoeing.

For a heftier dose of adrenaline, consider trekking heading further afield to the Upper Murray or Snowy Rivers for a guided white water rafting trip.

#3 Board Life

Thankfully, the lake’s not the only spot you can get around on a board in Jindabyne. Jindy is also a haven for skaters, with the town’s all-purpose skate park becoming a hub of action in the summer. Located just out front of the town’s Bowling and Sports Club, the park offers a six-foot shallow end, an eight-foot-deep end, and mad rails all round. It’s one of the better skating spots in the state, especially thanks to its latest planned revamp.

#4 Hit The Trails

One of the benefits of the fact that Jindabyne hugs a luscious mountain range is the bike action – here, at the foothills of the epic Snowy Mountains, Jindabyne is an excellent spot from which to embark on a sweet mountain biking adventure. You’ll discover heaps of awesome, well-marked trails nearby, from novice level to more challenging options like Thredbo Downhill Trail and the infamous Cannonball.

Some of us don’t need a mad adrenaline hit to get our adventure rush – simply slinging a hook, line and sinker into the drink is more than enough to get those juices flowing. Known for some of the best trout fishing in the country, the spectacular shores of Lake Jindabyne and the Snowy River make for a relaxing, tranquil and totally mellow fishing session out under the sun.

The rooftop of Australia? It’s right here folks (well, close enough anyway). The summit point of Mt Kosciuszko – the nation’s highest peak – is well within Jindy day-trip distance, and there are a number of sweet hiking options that’ll get you right to the top.

Consider a half-hour drive across to Thredbo, where an easy 13km hike along a metallic boardwalk provides one of the more pleasant and effortless treks up to the summit. For something a little more challenging, check out the 18km Summit Trail from Charlotte’s Pass, or perhaps extend it out via the ultra-scenic Main Ridge Track for a turbo summer adventure.

Make sure to dress sensibly, pack well, and revel in the glory.

#7 Hop On A Horse

You’re deep in Man From Snowy River turf around these parts, so it’s not a bad idea to get on horseback and head out for a bush gallop. Jindabyne and its surrounds specialise in guided mountain tours, whether it’s a two-hour ride or a multi-day overnight riding and camping trek. Check out some of Australia’s most rugged, challenging and glorious terrain on one of the most majestic forms of transport available.

Adventure time in the great outdoors is always its own reward, but it won’t necessarily quench your thirst. After all the day’s action, whether on the water, up the hill, or deep in the bush, take a little time out to chill out and soak up the scene amongst the friendly Jindy locals with a fresh Kosci Pale Ale at the Banjo Patterson Inn.

Brewed on-site at the Inn’s 600-litre Kosciuszko microbrewery, it makes the perfect bookend to an epic day outdoors. Every schooner served at ‘The Banjo’ is vat-to-tap, meaning you can bank on maximum freshness, but don’t take our word for it: while you’re there, pop your head into the mini brewery to see the guys working their magic. If you’re lucky, there might even be special and limited-edition Kosci brews availableat this iconic establishment. How good’s that?
