Some Sicko Has Created A Melbourne Event To ‘Jump Off The Westgate For Harambe’ The Gorilla

An event has popped up overnight on Facebook encouraging people to ‘Jump off the Westgate for Harambe’, planned for 1 October.

The event refers to Harambe, the gorilla tragically killed back in May after a toddler fell into his enclosure at Cincinnati Zoo. Harambe’s death has increasingly been used as a dank meme, but mixing in suicide and collectively joking about jumping off Melbourne’s West Gate Bridge is going way too far. The event is without a doubt gross and tasteless.

To date, over three thousand people have said they’re going to jump, after reading the promo text: “Jump off Westgate to join our nig*a harambae[sic].”

The event is particularly twisted considering the number of people that have committed suicide from jumping off the Westgate Bridge. Before the suicide barrier was erected, up to one person every three weeks was taking their life by jumping from the bridge. This fact, along with the beyond tragic 2009 death of Darcey Freeman, a child killed after being thrown over the bridge by her father, makes the whole thing all kinds of fucked up.

Made even worse by the comments section on the page, where the event admin ‘Free El Chapo‘ makes horrifically transphobic comments such as: “Requirements for both Men and Women attending: Men: Dicks out Women: Clits out Unfortunately there are only 2 genders, so please choose the appropriate genitalia,” he said.

Yeahhhhh, it’s pretty clear the page creator is a disgusting troll, so it’s kinda shameful so many people have RSVP’d.
