Justin Bieber could be Tim Watson’s date at the Brownlow Medal tonight
For the first time in years, Geoffrey Edelsten could be upstaged on the Brownlow Medal red carpet, with Tim Watson rumoured to be taking an even more bizarre guest than even Edelsten could ever manage.
Watson, The former Essendon champion and father of Brownlow winner, Jobe, revealed that he will be hosting an “international music guest” at tonight’s ceremony at the Crown Palladium.
Speaking this morning on Melbourne radio station SEN, Watson gave little information away, but confirmed his date is a male singer. This prompted further speculation from his breakfast radio co-hosts that it was Justin Bieber.
Biebs, who is currently in Melbourne promoting his newly crowned number 1 song, ‘What Do You Mean’ will perform a secret show at the Southern Cross Austereo rooftop in South Melbourne – Just down the road from where the ceremony will be taking place shortly after.
Watson continued to say, “I have got a role to play tonight, only a very very small role…I’ve got to do a little bit of chaperoning tonight with an international musical guest that’s here in the country.”
“…I can’t say too much. I’m not saying I’m chaperoning the Biebster. He’s not the only international guest out here” he said on his breakfast show, ‘Morning Glory’.
“…I’m not at liberty to say (who it is),” he added.
TheVine.com.au has been digging around this morning and according to our sources, we can confirm that there will be a high-profile guest attending under Watson’s wing. Those we spoke to kept a tight lid on the appearance and the celebrity in question.
If not Bieber, the other high-profile list of potential guests, currently in Melbourne include Maroon 5, Bryan Adams and James Blunt (who will be performing tonight).
It’s not the first time an ex-AFL star has rocked up with a big-time celeb to an awards ceremony. Former Geelong player and AFL Footy Show host, Sam Newman successfully asked Victoria’s Secret model, Victoria Silvstedt to be his date to the 2004 Logies.
