Put on the footy franks and crack open the Tia Maria: the foxy ladies are making a comeback to Fountain Lakes for their 20th anniversary and we could not be any more ploised!

It’s been yonks since we’ve heard from Kath & Kim and we’re so excited to celebrate the beloved Australian icons for their 20th b’day with some fresh content!

Magda Szubanski, aka Sharon Strzelecki, dropped some major hints at this year’s TV Week Logie Awards. When Magda was asked by TV Week if she knew anything about a possible reunion, she replied “If I did I couldn’t possibly tell you. If I did, I’d have to kill you and your publishers and everyone else. It would be a blood bath!”

Although things have been kept hush hush, here’s a few tidbits we know so far about the Kath & Kim anniversary special:

1. The whole cast will be making a comeback

The Sydney Morning Herald has reported that the main cast — Gina Riley, Jane Turner, Magda Szubanski, Glenn Robbins, and Peter Rowsthorn — are all set to come back. And for those who need a lil refresh: Gina plays Kim, Jane is Kath, Magda is Sharon, Glenn is Kel Knight, and Peter plays Brett.

We’re hoping to see some classic characters make a comeback, like nudist therapist Marion, who is played by Marg Downey, and Sandy Freckle, who always gave me the BIG ICK.

According to TV Tonight, Sonia Kruger and Celia Pacquola are some celebs rumoured to be involved in the reunion.

2. It’s being shot in South Melbourne

Earlier this year, sad news broke that the OG Kath & Kim home was being demolished. A lot of fans were disheartened by this news, as the house was almost an Aussie icon in itself. Radio station WSFM reported that a mega-super fan even took the door during the house’s demolition, as a momentum of the show.

Multiple sources have reported that Fountain Lakes has moved into a studio in South Melbourne, and we really hope they’ve rebuilt the original house because I WOULD LOVE to stay in the Kal And Kel Kountry Kootage.

3. It’s set to air later this year

While the special is only at the filming stage right now, the one-off episode is rumoured to be airing sometime later this year, so I guess we’ll have to bloody wait in line to see it.

I really hope that this 20th anniversary does get the Kimdrella treatment with a red carpet and all!

4. Jane Turner, aka Kath, originally wasn’t too keen

In an interview with Kyle and Jackie O in 2021, Jane mentioned that she wasn’t too keen on a revival. Jane said at the time, “I think it should be off the table… It holds such a special place in people’s memories”.

I’m super glad she changed her mind, amirite?

Although not much other news has surfaced, we’re just super keen to see the two foxy morons and the rest of the cast make a comeback for one last hurrah! Kath & Kim has impacted Aussies in multiple ways, from influencing our vocabulary to teens today still replicating their sassy ’00s fashion.

We can’t wait for the series to return via this epic one-off episode. But for now, we’re gonna have to wait and see what the creators have in store for us.
