Kourtney Kardashian Just Had ‘Urgent Fetal Surgery’. Here’s What That Means.
Kourtney Kardashian is currently pregnant with her fourth child – a little baby boy. As Kourtney’s previous pregnancies were a bit of a breeze (I mean, there’s still the act of growing a human and squeezing it out of your body, so you know, as ‘breezy’ as that could be), she was surprised when she had a major medical emergency this week.
She shared on Instagram that she was rushed to hospital for urgent fetal surgery after a complication with her baby. Luckily her husband, Travis Barker, was able to be by her bedside after skipping one of his tour shows with Blink 182.

Kourtney thanked her mum for “holding her hand” through the ordeal as well as the “incredible doctors for saving our baby’s life”.
What is Urgent Fetal Surgery?
The mum-of-three referenced the treatment her baby required was “urgent fetal surgery”, and if you, like me, have no idea what that means, here’s a little explanation.
When doctors discover severe problems with a baby (in whatever trimester they may be), they swoop in and perform surgery right there inside the womb. This involves sedating or anesthetising the parent, making a small cut in their belly and carefully fixing whatever’s wrong with the little one. Then, they sew everything back up and keep a close eye on both parent and baby afterwards in case there are any complications. It’s a tricky operation, but it can be a lifesaver for those babies before they even get a chance to be born.

While Kourtney hasn’t disclosed what the condition was that caused this urgent surgery, I’m damn happy to hear that it clearly went well enough that she was able to walk out of the hospital healthy.
“Walking out of the hospital with my baby boy in my tummy and safe was the truest blessing,” she shared.
Neither Travis nor Kourtney have revealed their son’s official due date. However, multiple reports have estimated that Baby Barker will be born sometime between October and December 2023.
